the dyno is the best place to get the cam gear tuned. since each car will be best at a different setting its kinda hard to tell where you'd want to have it set. so, you should just keep it at 0 til you can get the gear tuned. i know my timing was off on my car and when it got it set str8, the car ran so much better.
But is it true that even a new untuned cam is better than your stock?
its true, just on the fact that the aftermaket cam is smaller and lighter than our stock.
i want to retard cause its the max i can get for the mod
if i advance ill get not noticeable gain on my low end.
so far i got 6 by searching and 3 is conservative.
FAQ:
Generally, advancing a cam gear opens a valve sooner, and closes it sooner... retarding the cam gear, opens the valve later, and closes it later... since all you've done is "move" the fixed event.
Advancing Intake and Exhaust : This will provide the car with more bottom end power, and will decrease top end. Advancing both cam gears will move overlap earlier but will not increase it.
Retarding Intake and Exhaust : This will increase the cars top end, but will decrease low end. Retarding both cam gears will move the overlap later and but will not change the amount of overlap.
the faq you quoted is for a dohc motor. your g is a sohc with one cam gear so not all that information applies
How much does tuning cost?
I've seen anywhere from 70-200 per hour....typically takes 3 hours for a decent tune job on a car with minor modifications, SAFC, Camgears, cams....

First tell me all of your performance modifications and I will tell you if its worth spending the money to get it dyno tuned.
Oh I specifically meant the cam gears, but I guess it'd be better just to wait until i get more crap put on there.
