Yesterday, while many of his friends were autocrossing near Dallas, Texas, they were thinking about Jeremy Foley. Why? Because he'd be running up Pikes Peak in a 560-plus-horsepower (at the wheels) Mitsubishi Evolution by Evolution Dynamics. That's Most of our idea of a very good day. But sometimes, things go a bit wrong.
That's what happened for Jeremy and his co-driver Yuri Kouznetsov, unfortunately: things went a bit, well, airborne wrong. Off the side of the mountain wrong. Giant cartwheels shedding body panels wrong.
The good news is, however, that both Foley and Kouznetsov are OK. As Foley posted to his Facebook feed, "I thought I posted already, but Yuri and I are ok. A little beaten up but nothing major. Thank you so much to everyone for the kindness and support! What a wonderful feeling to feel so loved!"
Admittedly, the crash is pretty spectacular--and most of all we're glad they're both OK--but we'd rather have seen them make it to the top of the hill. Judging by their pace in qualifying, it would have been a solid time.

*Update: According to a post on Evolutionm.net, neither Foley nor his co-driver, Yuri, broke any bones in the dust up. Foley exited the crashed vehicle under his own power and Yuri injured his shoulder in what may be a dislocation.
Yea that shit is crazy bro every single piece of sheetmetal got ripped off, i cant even begin to imagine what the ride would be like and live to talk about it.
Here's a link to there build thread on evom that they started back in January, i fast forward to where they had there accident

Wow that's crazy!!! +1 for the cage builder, lots of business coming their way for keeping them relatively safe in that wreck!
fuk that holly shit balls thats dangerous.
Part out? I'll take the wheels....
Part-out?
... too soon? I'm kidding of course. Glad they're both OK. I was really irritated hearing the guys cheering during the video. What assholes.
Im glad their ok. That was crazy.
Amazing that they are alive!

Updated the first post with 2 more video's for anyone that cares to see.
wow, just from the last video it looked like he locked up the brakes abit, and from the tumble down the hill it also looked like the brakes lock up again and understeer the car
and man he had some serious brakes on that car just from looking at his build page
how the driver and co-driver survived... roll cage
how the engine and tranny survived... no idea lol
This video made the local news here in the Baltimore area yesterday, I was like damn, the whole nation is impressed with the fact they survived.
Holy shit that would be scary!

OMG! amazing
Wow that's crazy. Glad they survived.
I wonder how the 8gen galants will do on a pikes peak climb? Im thinking of taking my gtz up there.
First of all, no. Secondly, you need some power behind the wheels. Third of all, if you have that power, you will be slipping the front tires loose after every corner trying to pic up speed again lol!
It's all over fail without major mods.
Actually, with rally racing you usually have to start out naturally aspirated and often fWD. You can rally the heck out of a FWD car. I used to drift my 1.6L '94 Corolla around dirt corners all the time going up hills and had a blast. The capabilites are much lower so the speeds are slower but as the saying goes: it is more fun driving a slow car fast than a fast car slow.
If you want to go rally your 8th gen, go for it but you won't be starting at Pikes Peak. You'd never get in until you had a few other races down. To start rallying the only thing you'd really need is a helmet and a roll cage. You'd really want a limited slip differential too but it isn't necessary. Your Galant isn't the best choice to start with though. I'd suggest just finding a cheap Honda or Toyota that weighs nothing then gut it and cage it. The nice thing with doing it to something like a Civic is you can swap tons of engines in and it starts out weighing next to nothing. My Corolla weighed 2200 lbs stock. Even totally gutted our cars would have a hard time getting there. Less weight = cheaper to play with and more fun too.
