matt this will come usefull in the future for me. thanks man...
steve
Thanks man, i think alot of ppl will be more willing to do this swap now. https://www.thegalantcenter.org/styl...ault/smile.gif
hey peno, I always read that your suposed to ziptie the cable under the shifter assembly that prevents you from turning the key unless its in park down to something so that the car thinks its always in park. Since you just removed them all together I'm assuming it kinda defaults to thinking its in park just not being connected to anything?
well, i just removed both of the mechanical cables that ran to the auto shifter, and no problems at all yet. can take the key out at any time, can start the car in gear (with clutch in though, obviously). its like a brand new hyundai: no safety to or catch for turning on the car, just make sure it's in neutral :wink:Quote:

im glad to see a real in-dept tutorial that dosnt have to do with headlights or somethin like that.
very nice job peno
these were originally scanned for mindless, but they'd be helpfull to anyone. these are all the service manual pages pertaining to the clutch or manual transaxle for a 94-95 galant. it'd probably be the same for anyone with a 96 or up.

Good stuff man...how is the car running now that you did the swap...ie have you taken the car out through the paces yet or still taking it easy?

no, clutch broke in on tuesday or so, the car is amazing.

also, the SS teflon line is working great. it was actually my biggest fear for failing, but it's perfect.
Exactly why is there a clutch fluid resevior in the DOHC engine version, and why is the clutch pedal spring setup different in the DOHC version? The sohc pedal has just a return spring while the DOHC has a big ass "turnover spring"
FYI for the inhibitor switch on a 97/98, You can just cross the two thick black/red and black/blue striped wires. They are in the middle of the switch, on oppossite ends. Had to try a few different combonations to figure that out :lauging:
SUCCESS!!! auto to manual complete

awesome, get any pics? was my tutorial helpfull?
well i spoke to soon.... i got the car running by push starting... im having problems with the starter.... the starter doesnt engage the flywheel it just free spins right now it could be one of 2 things (yes i bought a starter for a 5spd) starter doesnt reach the flywheel from the side to turn it or its to high off the flywheel.... that findaza flywheel (8lbs.) does make a difference

haha, push starting, that's awesome
i feel your pain though, i went through about 5 starters before i actually got one that worked. i was in starter HELL for a few weeks. this is going to be a retarded question, but are you sure the flywheel is flush against the crank? i dont see how you could've gotten the tranny on with it being installed right, but who knows.
did you match up the flywheel inside the bell housing? this problem is wierd, you might want to return the starter and buy another one from another store. starters are like women, they're all bad and when you find a good one, you can't trust it.
I had that same problem with the starter not engaging the flywheel, but this was when I was using my auto starter. I installed a 5spd starter(from a 95 I think) and it engages now. You could always schim the starter gear so it sticks out farther.
well i found the problem..... it was 2 things: i was sold the wrong starter and flywheel..... the flywheel is from an 2g AWD i ordered a 2g turbo FWD.... and the starter was my fault i took what they gave me, i realized it was wrong when i was under the hood....lol
how do the FWD and AWD flywheels differ?
the AWD flywheel is smaller in diameter....
best part about this whole thing is that i return it because its been 2 months..... i asked for a FWD he typed up for an AWD.... paper work says AWD.... but i know what i asked for...
I just realized I bought a 2g turbo AWD flywheel, damn it has to have been over 3 months ago. ANY problems to run a AWD flywheel? would the flywheel make a difference??
Its smaller in diameter therefore you would either have to mod the stock starter or somehow use an awd starter. Not even sure if that would work, just sell it and buy a FWD flywheel, make things easy on yourself

something I did not want to hear  . any suggestions of flywheels?
i have the act street-lite. pretty fucking solid. get the fidanza, more expensive, but 3-4 pounds lighter. everyone loves it.
the AWD flywheel is smaller in diameter the starter is not going to be able to catch the flywheel to turn it.....
yeah i got the findaza flywheel.. 8lbs... real light.... but theres only one down fall to this flywheel, your will decelerate quietly..... i love it.... you'll just have to learn a new way of driving....
wow great job on the tutorial.... i felt like i was there....
does anybody know of anywhere in NY that will do the auto to 5spd swap. I donĀ“t have the space tools or the room to do it myself. Although I would love to but. I can buy the parts if need be and have someone else do it if anyone knows where i can get it done.

DO NOT multiple post.
Thought I might add this since people are having problems when using old shift balls and forks. If your shift fork doesn't look like this you need to adjust it with shims or you will have problems with your clutch.

and this is the pic to adjust the pedal

Back from the dead. Seth had a trick with cross member in when putting in the 5 speed, I did this and it worked out well.
UPDATE: reverse wires added to tutorial at the very end.

nice!
never mind
The sensor on the top front of the trans. Would have to have the original pigtail/connector or use generic connectors from autozone.
