the amplitude of the vibration increases 5 fold.
the engine is not internally balanced, so it vibrates a bit more than most 4 cylinders without shafts.
I can hear/feel the vibrations just standing next to a car with them missing.
so my 2 cents is that they are the best thing to ever happen to engines. keeping in mind that nearly everyone now uses balance shafts somewhere in their engine lines.. most 4 cylinders, many 6 cylinders... hell, even some 10 cylinders. My yamaha motorcycle had one!
Mitsu pioneered the balance shaft in 1971... and they dont fail unless neglected (like any internal engine part).
