They are the same engine. No differences, except that I thought the S model is generally a M/T, right?
Ok I have a really stupid question! I should know this but before I get the damn thing. But does the engine out of a 1997 fit into a 1996? The front end is slightly different on the cars but I dont think it matters. Plus is the engine in an es any different than and S? Like more hp or torque or are they all 141hp? Thanx! I need a new engine and I found a used one with 61k on it for $740 so...

My 97 needed a thermostat from a 96, if that means anything... :?

there are a few differences. the 97 distributor is a little different (i think), and i believe the 97s had a manifold differential pressure sensor on them that the 96s didnt have.
but mechanically theyre the same.
