Agreed. Car smells better too. Only noise I've ever picked up was fuel sloshing in the tank once in awhile after doing it to three cars now.

I was thinking about doing that, but I kinda like full interior

Hah! I thought it was just me with the car smell. Only thing i noticed was i hear gravel under my car on the highway and the evo x pump is audible now.

Good news today. The car is finally home, after making the annual 5 hour trip with Silvertune to get the car back from storage. This time though, for the last time. The Galant is now in it's permanent home.

It will see a major deconstruction starting within the next few days. Updates will be posted as necessary.

Until then, here are the last sound clips of my 6g75 in stock longblock form.

Haha nice, like how the clips transition from title to vrooooom. What ever happened to your 3g muffler?

  7. #827
I ended up giving that muffler to a friend of mine was looking to return his 3G back to stock.

    The car as of tonight.

Got enough crap removed tonight to get a closer look at what I'm dealing with in the bay. It definitely needs a makeover.

Cleaned up a sample area rather easily. I have a feeling it will go easy enough.

Upon removing the y-pipe for the headers I found where my pesky exhaust leak was coming from. At least it'll be a simple fix.

    And from the inside.

Today the interior received the bulk of attention. All that's left to do is remove the rest of the a/c components and sound deadening mat. After that, make and install a blockoff panel on the firewall where the a/c lines bolt to the expansion valve. Then it goes back together with only the essentials.

Once the interior is back together, I'll be turning the attention back to this mess.

Are you keeping the hvac unit itself? If so, I just cut a piece of plastic about the size to cover that hole, drill a hole into it, so I could just put the cover on, and use the bolt that the a/c bolted with to bolt the cover down.

YOU MUST DO A WIRE TUCK
    LOL

Are you going to sand down the bay and repaint it?

I think I'll end up blocking it from the inside. That way it's fairly flush from the bay side of the firewall.

Wiring will be somewhat tucked when it goes back together. I want to clean it up a bit. We'll see how involved I decide to get when the time comes.

The bay will get coated in black POR-15. I'm grinding down all the rust first. As you can see, I have plenty to remove on the driver's side of the bay before I get to that though.

Yeah, I see that. I wish I would have used POR, there is just a little rust coming back in mine through the seams that I couldn't sand out. Looking good though. How long do you think will take you?

I'm not sure how long it'll take yet. My ultimate goal is to have the car back together, running, and ready to hit the dyno at Boost for Boobies at MAP, which is April 26th. It's hard to say if it'll happen, but I feel like setting that goal will help give me something to shoot for.

That is exactly where my car was rusting around the strut tower, I sanded it down, blasted out all the dust and brush painted por-15 on to really get into the seams. Should keep it from becoming in issue for a long time, it just makes for a little more work to make it look pretty again.

Just a tip on your engine bay rust.. If you can clean up and shoot some paint from under the shock tower mount, I believe you won't have rust issues at the seam anymore.

    Looking good so far =)

Are you using those flap discs on a grinder? Those work very well for that type of stuff.

  19. #839
Keith, thats exactly what I plan on doing. I'm pretty sure thats where the strut tower problems come from. All the salt and road junk splashes up and blasts the underside, then sits between the strut and tower.

Alex, I've been using wire wheels. So far, they're doing a fine job.

The problem I had was where the strut tower mates to the frame rail, there was a small section that had completely rusted through. That part was cut out and patched with high strength sheet steel then coated in por-15 to keep it from becoming an issue again. Watch rust in that area because any hole in that section could lead to the strut tower fracturing and eventually failing completely.
