    Icon10 From 01 Galant to 91 LS400 to 69 VW Squareback???

Yup. I keep going older on my cars. This is my new project car. Whatcha think? Was gonna flat black it, white walls and give it that rat rod look, but then again its Original Paint in decent condition. That would be wrong. So keeping it the color it is, restoring it, white wall fatty, red paint the wheels w/ the chrome center cap, and lower her decently till I can throw some bags on it!...Yup...Im sooo random in the style of car I roll in. JDM to VIP to VW Classic....LOL

Accident. Deemed Unfixable. Got a check for it.

I'd rather have the knowledge and ability to do it than the money to buy it already done.

I had one of those, I didn't have any room so I sold it. Some one gave it to me. I wish I still had it
8g tranny is being rebuilt and waiting on ground control coilovers
7g is just sitting motor and tranny is out(need to finish, just lazy)
6g (vr4) motor is out getting the good stuff like a gt4088 and some more stupid stuff.
    Nice to be back!!!!

Dont look auto to me, 2 cut outs in the floor carpet, clutch brake and then the accelerator covering the third, I have owned 3

being a 69 shouldnt it have wrap around indicators and reflectors?

Dont matt black it, very unoriginal now the whole rat look crap

Here is my first one, I still have it but its succumbed to tin worm

Yes it is ridiculously low, no engine and no fuel tank in this when it was taken

Then I bought a Sqaure, original 65 untouched

Best part of that car was it was a pigalle ie red interior, but someone ripped most of the red interior out and only left the seats and trunk matt

    Then I bought another fastback

Turned out be a crock of crap, so got my money back took some time and effort but a complete POS!

I am tempted to do my first one up, bits are hard to get for it now though, so it might just get flat sheet metal in there

Also get it lowered, costs absouletely nothing to lower a Type 3, take the hubs of the front and twist it down around 2 splines, should have it nice and low, rear is similarish, have a search you will find info.....

Also if the EFI is still working on it, its worth a bit of money, as its quite a rare bit of kit to get hold of in working order, and if your interested in a pigalle rear trunk matt let me know, might not be to cheap shipping it, but a very rare item ;)

Sweet. I know, im on the samba forums. I agree imma keep it the factory color. IM down for that rear trunk matt, show me a pic of it. I know how to lower it, they even have a step by step tutorial. Im just broke. I got the car for $1500 :) :) I drive it all over locally. Just no freeways...

BTW...it is Auto. Im not a fan of Manual when u live in LA and drive around the Hollywood hills, not cool...

$1500 isnt bad if the car runs good.

The auto box tend to be a bad point with VWs. They are hard to find replacements and tend to be even harder to fix if something brakes. I had one for a short period of time and didnt like it.

Is this your first air cooled VW? Ive owned over 10 different air cooled VWs and have loved everyone and regret selling them. :D

A book I would recomend is http://www.amazon.com/Keep-Volkswage.../dp/1566913101 you can find them at most larger book stores.

Thanks! I'll order that...this is my first VW.

Finally had some extra cash to actually register it :P

Paid $100 to get it registered and was told by AAA about putting it as a "Classic Car"

Talked to the ppl there and it only cost me $99 for the ENTIRE YEAR for FULL COVERAGE!!!

They just take a pic of the car, the garage I leave it in...and the rule is only 1,500 miles a year, but the loophole is cars this old dont have working or correct mileage, so they wont ask!

This is the cheapest price car I have paid for, but if its stolen or totalled I get the highest value I have ever been quoted.... $9500! lol

    Go figure.

Monday I will be going to my mechanics pad to start checking out what parts I need to replace to get her running better.

First goal is to drive it on the fwy safely, then to start restoring it visually....

A word of advice when it comes to modding the engine.

The factory fuel injection is very finicky (sp?). When the engine is stock and everything is in ok condition it will run fine, but start doing things and you may have issues. After a good tune up and you want to start adding more power A few recomended parts are

    http://www.jbugs.com/store/merchant....-3-carburetors

    and

    http://www.jbugs.com/store/merchant....Category_Code=

And the place looks to be "fairly" close to your area :D

The cars are extremly easy to work on and almost anything a person with moderate mechanical knowledge can figure out (with some reading in the book i mentioned)

With highway drives. The cars are very light and typicaly have some worn steering joints so they tend to get buffeted around by passing cars. Keep it at a reasoable speed and hold on when semis pass and you should be fine.

My last VW was a '71 super and it used to get pushed into other lanes by wind gusts while traveling in the rocky mountains outside of Denver. But you shouldnt have anything to worry about.

And as kyleg mentioned, get a good jack and set of tools and carry them with you. How to keep your VW alive tells you a good place to start and is an great roadside referance tool.

Have fun and enjoy a truly classic car. :D
