Bad thing about living out there with lots of salt on the toad. Rust sucks.

It sure does. I remember looking at the underside of a southern car the first time years and years ago, and I was blown away how new that car looked. (I used to live up north)
Good progress, I'm getting jealous at all of you with your welders! Did you ever consider welding up a new cross member?

Thanks Pete I'll take your jealousy as a compliment lol. I'm not that good at fabrication yet or stirring up ideas for fabbing stuff yet. But why would I need to fab up a new one?? Because I cut my existing one??

Started stripping the engine bay. Used an angle grinder then switch to sandblasting. Still lots more to go.

Honestly, not sure about "need", but since you are cutting into it already. It's one of those things that I always thought I would try to improve if I had a welder, and see if a stiffer tubular part can be created. I do actually remember denting a brand new factory crashbar just with my jack while lifting the car - always loved stamped parts lol.

I wouldn't mind making one eventually. Right now with the lack of a garage u don't want to so any extra work I don't have to do. I'm struggling enough with mother nature cuz it's changing the forecast constantly and I wanna finish the car before June.

Once I have a place with a garage then I'll probably make one.

Today I finally fitted the oil cooler than I want to use. I am mimicking the oil cooler kit that STM sells.

Welded a piece of angle iron to the car. Here's how it fits

    Without the bumper installed

    With the bumper installed

This shows how close it sits to the fog light

Here's how the crash bar fits behind the bumper

Been busy with my school project and haven't done much in about 10 days to the car. I did more welding and more seam sealing.

In the meantime my friend hit my daily and that went into the shop today to get fixed

I also happened to buy this right before he hit my daily so I'll be rocking this for a week

    Meet Lola it's a 1999 ford f150 XLT 4x4 supercab 4.6 Triton V8

Did some work on the bay Friday and today

    Deleting more holes

    Before

    After

Closed more holes and laid some filler and spent the day sanding down and doing more welding

The fiancé bought me a combined gift, test fitted and it needs some spacers. They are ADV.1 AD-20 18x8.5 +33 they are going to be wrapped with nankang 225-40/18

This is with a 10mm "spacer"

Got these lug nuts to go with them

I will do a true test fit on the daily once it comes back from the body shop and decide whether I'm doing 10mm or 15mm spacer.

Awesome wheels, are you painting the whole car or just the bay?

Nice job on the bay..and I've seen those wheels a few times but never on a galant and I always wondered what it would look like. Looks like my questions will be answered lol

Been busy trying to get more work done on it.

Yesterday and today we assembled the block

Timing belt was installed and pin from auto tensioner was pulled and motor was spun by hand. Realized that I forgot to mount the plate behind the motor mount for the crank sensor wire.

Tomorrow I'll mount the crank sensor and the plate and intake manifold and power steering pump.

Still waiting on my new oil pan to come back from coating.

Getting close, did you oil prime the motor? If you didnt it would be a good idea before you put the timing belt on. Nice cam gears too I think Ill go with the AEM's next engine build, hopefully no time soon though.

I really give it to you though, for not having a garage you sure do make the best of it. You go out of your way to make sure you have shelter which is really helpful.

Haha thanks man. Not having a garage sucks but we make it work.

No i didn't prime the motor. I was planning on adding oil to it and cranking it with the injectors disconnected so I can get oil everywhere and build pressure before firing it up.

    You recommend another way??

Timing belt is already on but it's coming off so I can add the crank sensor and its plate.

Well the old dsm way is to take the chuck of the a electric drill and tighten it to the nut of the oil pump gear/cog. Make sure its spinning the direction the timming belt is supposed to rotate, block off all the ports that the oil would come out of, remove the valve cover and press the drill trigger. Run it until the oil comes out of the head galleys. Im sure theres lots of youtube videos about this.

It would be best if you did this as close as possible to your start up.

I'll keep this in mind. Thanks for the heads up.

    Epoxy primer is laid

Gun didn't lay the primer right. Did a ton of wet sanding and more primer

Finally all sprayed. Missed few tight corners, dirt got into the paint (should've laid down a tarp under the car to cover the dirt) and have runs here and there. But it's done and I'm about to assemble it soon. Maybe I'll redo it next year with a full harness tuck.

Bad pic with bad lighting. I'll get daytime pics soon.

    And did this.

Getting into the transmission is easy. One tutorial said to lift the bellhousing off. That apparently doesn't work since my transmission has an input shaft bearing that is secured down with a bracket and 3 bolts. Had to pierce this and order a new one. Waiting on the replacement to get here.
