    Newbie from the Bay Area

    Hi All,
I'm looking to get a commuter car with some style so I'm here to research 8th gen galants. Its between one of those and a 00-03 maxima. I come from the world of domestic off road trucks and suv's and muscle cars so I have alot to learn about imports.

Welcome to TGC, madmaxwell87! I might actually be in a unique position to help. Not only do I love Mitsus, but I also have an '03 Infiniti I35 as a daily driver (which is Infiniti's version of the Nissan Maxima). I absolutely love the car and would recommend the platform to just about anyone (3.5L V6 VQ35DET / FWD 4-spd auto). However, you'll want to be wary of buying one with high miles, they are notorious for burning oil. I bought mine with about 130k on the clock and cracked a ring land around 150k (very rarely abused it).

I would assume he's referring to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Thanks for the welcome all. Yes voodoo the SF bay area. That's the only place I've ever heard referred to as the bay area.

Voodo- My price range dictates that I'd be looking for the earlier cars with the 3.0l so no oil burning problem with those. I like the I30/35 but like the front end of the maxima's better.

I did notice that I can get a 03 6 cyl galant with 140k for the same price as a 00 maxima v6 with well over 200k and that KBB values are atrocious for galants but not so bad for maximas. Is there a significant reason why? Is it because you're buying a name (ie toyota) or are there real reliability and quality differences that make that difference?

My friends and family drive well everything not a galant and my 8G is by far more reliable than anything they have owned thus far.
