Ok I took the heat shield off today, and vola! No more rattling. Thank you everyone.

Nevermind everyone. That sound is back with a vengence. Anymore suggestions? Getting the crank checked out is my next priority, but I would love to avoid the mechanics if possible.

The sounds has not gone away after several months. In fact their have several "new" sounds emiting from my car (totally unrelated [which is a really bad thing]). Anyone got any new ideas? I was guessing it might be a broken piece of honeycomb stuff in the cats.

Just for a quick update. A while ago I found the sound to be the cam pulleys. One of the bearings had broken, and it was banging around in their.
