It is not in the ECU. The stock oil pressure send is an "on/off" type. Either it is "off" when oil pressure is good and no light is on your dash or it is "on" when oil pressure is low and the warning light on your dash lights up. For an aftermarket oil pressure gauge you need a corresponding sender that measures the range of oil pressure. You need to plug the sender in to read pressure - this can be done by T'ing of the stock sender location, mouting elsewhere in the engine block or in some cases there is a 'plug' on the oil filter housing you can remove and replace with an adpater and sender.

I bought an adapter that goes on the bottom near along with the filter (AC Autotechnic make one) this allows me to run an aftermarked oil temp and oil pressure sensor without tapping the oil pan or replacing stock senders. For the oil pressure sender I am using a 1992 Madza 323 sender for a gauge.

I got a mechanical guage, and a T comming off the stock oil sender hole the other ends of the T get the stock sender screwed in and the fitting for the oil pressure guage tube. You have to use a T cause you need to keep your stock sender in there.

You could also tap the oil filter housing on the back side theres a lil flat spot that goes right into the galley very easy to drill and tap, but you'd probably have to have the housing off the engine lot of work there lol.

    bump:
What would happen if i didn't replace the stock oil sender? Would the car not run properly, or would the oil light just stay on?

the light would most likely stay on, but it wouldnt at all effect your ecu cause they are not related.
the only thing is, you are going to notice your oil pressure light way before you notice the oil pressure gauge hit zero.
so i wouldn't recomend killing it.

if you are going to use an aftermarket oil feed line, then do what most people do with your o.p gauge sender mount it at the factory turbo oil supply outlet at the top of the head.

i didn't really read your thread all the way but if you are running mechanical oil pressure gauge just forget about it. get a electronic one. you can get autometer oil pressure gauges for 40 bucks brand new electronic on ebay motors.

i orderd that piece, but then i forgot about my swap, so i'll probably just use the filter adapter for oil temp gauge. i'll probably just disconnect the stock oil sender for the 64, till i decide to do the swap some time between now and sept.

the sandwich adaptor can come on and off pretty easily. i would just use it if you already have it. that way you don't have to modify the wiring later to adjust to the different lengths between mounting positions. and you'll still have the safety of the oil pressure light

Anyone know what the thread size is on our stock oil pressure sending unit? 10mm? 12mm? I'm trying to install an electric oil pressure gauge, but I'm wanting to keep my stock OP light, so my plan is to "T" it off of where the stock unit would go, and hook up the sending unit to one side of the "T", and the stock sending unit on the other?
