How reliable is rolling fenders Via baseball bat?

hey, once i got my new wheels on i realised that i will no doubt need to roll the rear fenders when i drop it. i dont know of any good place to get it done. but i have heard mixed reviews about the baseball bat method. it seems if you dont screw up then things should turn out good. this is what i remember from how to do it.
    -jack up car
-heat up the metal and paint (will a hair drier work?)
-lower it on the bat to go between the tire and the well
-have a friend slowly reverse the car while heating the metal and letting it roll

do you guys think this method is worth it?
know where i can get them done professionaly? the thing is ive heard of shops just using the same method and charging somewhere around $100
any imput would be apreciated, thanks.

honestly, just get it done. if not just buy your own for a good $500 or so. If you do it this way, you might regret it.

travis said he got his done for like 20-30 bucks. i'll ask him about it when i see him. maybe we can all get our fenders rolled together. i know roni was thinking about getting his done too.

but yea, don't skimp out on the heat gun. you can get a heat gun at harbor freight for less than 15 bucks and it will get the job done.

I've done it with the bat on my bf's car...works fine...just lift the car, place the bat on the tire against the fender, lower the car, and roll the bat yourself..takes some strength but it works...adjust the height of the car for better motion while rollling the bat. we didnt heat up anything and it worked fine.

just an FYI, Autozone rents out fender rollers for like $10 a day. at least the autozone by me does, i would check them out

the heat gun is definetly a must to prevent the paint from cracking.

ok crap. i just talked to travis and he got his done in NC. crap. i guess we can check out autozone and see if they have one. i have a heat gun and a floor jack so maybe a few of us can get together and get it done.

if worse comes to worse, i'll just buy a pack of cutting wheels and cut it out.

dont forget to use a razor blade and cut along the undercoating just inside of the rear fender. that way when you bend the fender edge back, the stock paint isnt pulled along with the fender.

why dont u just cut the lip off with a dremel,,somntimes the paint chips off where u roll it regardless of what u do.....

i got mine done by a guy at work.....all he used was a bat......didnt even lift it, just stuff it as far up the wheel as he could, and rolled the car back

I'm rubbing really badly with the EVO wheels...but I'm going to get this done professionally...cutting isnt an option due to the rust factor that will set in, even if I roll them, I'm going to mask and repaint the fender wells to prevent any corrosion from setting in...Chicago puts more salt on the roads than there is snow in the winter.

Dont forget if you go with dremel method after you cut it... you need to paint the edges so rust wont explore your fenders... Id go with dremel method im actually gonna dremel mine...

    I did mine this way
-cut the inner lip with a dremmel about every 1.5 inches

-use a heat gun on LOW to heat up the paint on the section you will be working on

-wedge the baseball bat between the tire and inner fender (may need to jack car up) and press in or "roll" each 1.5 inch. "flap" individually

-tape it off and use some rustoleum the same color (or close) to your car to paint the "flaps" that you rolled.

-IMPORTANT- run your fingers along the inside of the fender you just rolled to make sure there are no sharp edges sticking out from the "flaps" that could damage the tires.

-use the "butt" end of the batt to press in any edges or flaps that may be sticking out.

Since you have a black car like me, did this leave any marks or dimples??

to anyone i'd suggest painting after rolling, because no matter what that paint will crack...and since our rear fenders are sheet metal...they will start to rust...it costed me 200 total...have them rolled and re-sprayed ...alot cheaper than spendin who knows how much to replace the entire thing if it gets too rusted...
