Premium 93 octane.
My Galant is a V6 and has only 9600 miles. I don't have the owner's manual, so I was wondering should I use regular, middle, premium gas? Thanks.

The highest available in California is 91 octane, so I'm assuming that's what you meant. Upon looking at the stats and specs sheet on cars.com, it looks like it only needs regular unleaded. If anyone has a '99 Galant V6, can you tell me what your owner's manual says?

umm the fuel filler door should have a sticker that says premium only... that would mean 91 minimum.

There's a reason why those labels say: PREMIUM ONLY

if u have a v6, then it is a medium size deal... ur car is not running as well as it could since the ECU has adjust to avoid detonation... but hey it's ur car, if u want to save a few bucks on gas at the expense of your mileage and the well being of ur engine, that's ur choice.
I run 91 simply because thats all we have. I guess I could fill it up at the marina with 93 I would never think of putting anything less in it though it's to dear to me
why listen to the sticker that says "use premium only" i mean the manufactuer put it on there. like they really know how the car runs...

I tested this over a year ago. I ran 15 Gal of 93 and was able to drive 330 miles. Using 89 I was only able to travel 290 miles on the same amount of gas and with the same driving (to work and back, and to school) and then I used 87 and was only able to get 220 miles out of it. I reset my ECU between each test too....
So, use the highest available in your area. Shell around me has 93.5 (no joke)

The engine has an anti-knock management system to prevent premature detonation of lower grade fuels. Unless you drive the car really hard, you won't notice any difference in performance (you'll sacrifice a few HP) and hardly any difference in economy. I use 87 only and regularly get 26-28 mpg between regular fill-up intervals. I just went on vacation and put over 1200 miles on the car, returning nearly 30 mpg for the whole trip. I'm over 130K miles now and the 87 hasn't ruined my engine yet...

i had similar results as you. but let me use your numbers for my calculations.
here i think premium is $3.35 and regular is $3.05
with that said. the difference between putting 15 gallons of regular is $4.50 cheaper than 15 gallons of premium.
now with the premium you're getting. 22mpg.
with the regular you're getting 14.6 mpg big difference.
now if you took 330 and subtracted 220 you're get 110. thats the difference in mileage between premium and regular.
now at 14.6 mpg, you'd need 7.5 gallons to get 100 miles. and at $3.05 a gallon of regular, or $22.88
so actually by filling up with regualr, you'd be wasting money, not saving.
but yea your results will vary. i mean if you had an i4, you'd be wasting money by going with premium. but with a v6, you'd be gaining by going premium. and that 22mpg to me that sounds kinda low but i know i get about that much if i do mostly errands and a buncha city driving. if it was highway miles, i'll get closer to 30mpg.

this topic has been covered a lot
it's simple though
V6- 93 octane (if your gas station doesn't have it, get the next best thing....91?)
I4- 87 gets the job done
that's the moral of the story
it is your car so I can't tell you what to do, so use whatever you want....the V6 will benefit from the highest grade fuel at your local station though
