You A/T or M/T?
I'm just getting started with turboing my 7G(96 S 5spd) I'm only looking to run about 8 psi on stock internals currently, I do plan to build a 2.4 with forged pistons and dohc 63t head in the future but not for some time so I don't want to have to upgrade my setup once i build the engine.
so here's the list for my planned setup, any feedback would be greatly appreciated:
Megan Racing SS tubular exhaust mani (T3 style)
HRC Super 16G
Greddy Type RS Blowoff Valve
MAFT Pro
Zeitronix ZT-2 Wideband O2 Sensor
GM 3.5” MAF
650cc injectors
Resistor pack
Walbro 255LPH HP
Aeromotive AFPR
FMIC w/ custom IC piping
Would you guys recommend keeping the internal gate on the 16G or switching over to an external gate setup?
(I plan on keeping the stock exhaust when i first bolt everything up so I was thinking of going with the external gate to keep from getting any boost creep)

ya, i would say go external. it would be cheaper to run an internal wastegate, but you will creep a little bit in the higher rpms, especially on that 2.4.
whats wrong with 3" GM maf>? do you plan on running 3" intercooler pipe?
theres nothing wrong with the 3" ... just everywhere i look the 3.5" is cheaper, I'm still a little confused on why that is but whatever.

i believe tis cause there is a higher demand for the 3.0" mas.Originally Posted by laxinwarrior

true, most people dont run 3.5 inch innercooler pipe, therefor the 3 is easier to fit, less hassle,Originally Posted by DOHCstunr
do you think it would make much of a difference to go with the 3.5" though? and peano the external gate is starting to sound better everytime i think about it cuz i want to keep the boost down pretty low for awhile.

Most people dont even run 3". Id say the majority run 2.5"Originally Posted by Legal4Now

well the 3.5 flows more air.Originally Posted by laxinwarrior
it also is less restricitive,
but it does creat that massive barrel in the middle of your charge pipes from the reducers you will use.
but of course..
going from 2.5 to 3 and then back again has the same issue.
so its whatever.
i'd just go with the cheaper one.
or even just a used mas.

Ok so if I go with an external gate, where do you guys think the best place to mount it would be?
I was thinking manifold but just want to hear other opinions on it.

I think that the 650cc will be to big to tune down with the maf pro. If you had a 2g ecu it would be different because they are setup for 450cc. I'm using the 2gen maft and I'm having problems tuning 550cc down with the stock ecu which is set up for 275cc.

Sleepervr-4 what kind of problems have you run into with the MAFT? The reason i picked the 650cc injectors is because i will be swapping to dohc with the 2g ecu in the future and i don't want to have to upgrade everything again once i do that.

well of course if you have the money go with a external setup. for now you could do some porting on that 16g to prevent creeping. you probably are not gonna see that much creeping with stock exhaust, its when you upgrade to 3inch is when its gonna creep. then again i was creeping from 8 to 13-14psi on my talon with a 14b with a ported 02 housing. so external is the best way to go.
