I just wonder if theres a differnce in this ebay material and more expensive stuff you find on other cars.

how old is yoru paint, i wouldn't put anything on it that won't let the paint breath until its at least 1 month out.

i'm sure you coudl easily buy the material yourself and cut it to fit no worries

The most popular Clear Bra is made by 3m. A lot of new Porsche owners put them on their cars. (Yeah, I was in the market for an '84 944 until the parents nixed that...)

There are places that will apply it for you if there isn't a kit for your car, I think all that is done is the material is heated up, stretched to your car's finish, and x-acto knife'd to perfection.

I want to do this to my 7G after I find some Minden Silver to do my mirrors and front bumper. The paint on my mirrors is so cloudy...it's rediculous!

This stuff is really good at protecting your finish too...on the Porsche forum this one guy had a 2x4 or something fall off the back of a truck (onto a brand new 997!) and strike his clear bra protected front end, and the areas not protected suffered a noticable amount of damage compared to those guarded by 3m's material.

There are pros and cons to this type of protection. Some installations were botched by bad x-acto jobs...and the owners only noticed after they removed the material.

Also something to consider is the potential for the material to yellow over time. Obviously, manufacturers aside from 3m make a Clear Bra...however from what I've read on it 3m's was vastly superior.

Just some things you might want to consider!

Not sure but there is a spot here in Sherman Oaks called Sticker City (I know) and they do this sort of work. They have a shit load of Lotus' that theydeal with among some other beasts. http://www.stickercity.com/store/home.php They also do headlights and stuff like that. If you guys want I can check to see if they can make an application, or have a universal that us G's can use

I bought some of that 3M stuff off ebay right before i drove across country (IL to AZ).. It worked alright but it is hard as fuck to put on. I put in on my headlights and the front of my hood.. but i took it off as soon as i got to AZ cause it looked bad. In my opinion, let a shop put it on for you, if the price is right.

Need some paint or bodywork done in Chicagoland or NW Indiana???.. http://www.alsautobodyexperts.com/

dont try it yourself, trust me we do this. and it is only reccomended on brand new cars with factory paint. if you get a high quality product like 3M or Llumar, it will adhere well, not orangepeel, and not fade to yellow; but if your paint isnt high quality and the job wasnt prepped right, taking the stuff off could rip off your paint. we only do it to brand new cars. we dont even take customers, just dealers. trust me dont buy the kit. you will likely mess up on at least a couple of the pieces and then your left with missing spots. webuy rolls and have a plotter to cut them out. if we make a mistake we can just cut out a new single piece. $400 is dirt cheap for a quality install. we get in the upwards of $800, and thats the dealer paying. they turn around and sell it for like $1200.

400 for just the front bumper? or the whole front end?
    Your signature is too long.

My friend went to a week long training on how to apply that stuff. He worked for the Mercedes dealership. It is not easy and should be left for professionals. Especially if you just got a fresh paint job, you don't want to mess it up. Also, if you just buy sheets of it, it will be hard as hell to cut it right and make it fit. That is why the kits for Lexus or whatever cost so much is because they are pre-cut and made for that specific cars bumper/hood. The older stuff did turn yellow. I had it on my stock hood and it is noticeably different. I chose not to put it on mine after I got the kit and monster hood put on. Its a double edge sword. I did hear the new stuff doesn't turn yellow but I didn't want to risk it. Leave it to the pro's on this stuff believe me.
