Looking for a 7G specialist in Southern California

    Hi!

I just found this site after years of frustration with Mits dealerships and mechanics that said nothing could be done with my 7G Galant ES. I searched through the posts but did not find what I was looking for, so here goes...

I have a Cherokee Red 97 Galant with 192+k miles on it (mostly freeway driving); bought in 2000 with 75k on it. I have a great Mech to take care of general maintenance, but I would like to find a shop or proven specialist that could take this car to the next level. Besides plus sizing the tires to 15" 60 series, adding mercury rims and a new Kenwood Double-din Audio system, the car is completely stock.

So what am I looking for? Increased performance (Better acceleration and handling), reducing engine noise (the car is sounding a little like a diesel) and upgrading the interior and exterior as well. The car is completely paid for and I want to keep her as long as is feasible - Hey, I like my Gal. :)

I can get into specifics as members respond, but here's the catch... I know this may sound pathetic, but I am not a motor dude. I've never worked on a car in my life. So if I tried to do what many of you have described in your posts, I'd probably end up on the news under the heading 'Don't let this happen to you!' So now that I've admitted my lack of knowledge, I'm basically asking for your help.

Thanks in advance for your input, and if I posted in wrong forum please don't be angry. I'm pumped to find this place exists, so if I blew it I apologize.

    Thanks!

if your car is sounding like a diesel it could be a few things a REALLY bad knock, lifter tick. but if thats the case maybe its time for a new motor, if you need a new motor then there are options that you can search around for. Before going that far should get a compression check you don't want to start adding more power to a motor that isn't 100% Good luck on your project.

well the handling can be tweaked to nirvana and back...but if you're not a motor dude and have 192K+ on your current one, then your acceleration/performance isn't going to change much....if at all....springs/struts....camber kit on all wheels....then a sway bar...prothane bushings....underbraces....it would be superb

evil-G-nius - I want to talk to you..

    Kimya,

That's what I've been looking for. A place that will make my Gal run like she should :smt023 Hit me back with the info here or via PM. And you're right, I should post some pics - just haven't had the time to do that when other things have higher priority. I will post asap so I can get your honest opinions.

Thanks for all the input, it does make a difference. I do have a couple of related questions, but they probably should be listed under another thread. I'll be looking for your responses.

    Thanks! :D
