Doesnt the oil filter for the Evo fit? Im pretty sure it does, and its half the size of a DSM filter.
Ok people..i need a pic of turbo down pipe mating with the o2 housing..
Anyone have any idea if the turbo and non turbo filter housings are dramatically different? With my oil cooler adapater which is about the same thickness of the stock sandwhich oilcooler...the downpipe will not clear the oil filter, and if it does, I won't be able to unscrew the filter without removing the pipes. Nothing fancy here, 1g 4g63 with a 14b.
I need a pic of the downpipe in the car to compare to...only thing I can find on line are pics of the down pipe outside of the car, or pics of the tops of engines. I need a bottom up view of the turbo assembly.

Here Jip...here is one from my 7g.
I did use a sandwich oil filter adapter for my oil pressure gauge and I still have alot of room..as you can probably gauge in the pic.

I don't get it..I've been out of the loop for a while maybe I missed something...My o2 housing ends right above the filter, even if I removed the sandwich adapter for the oil cooler there wouldn't be that much room.

:? ...that is weird Rob? I can dig up a couple more "clear" pics tonight and post them with the sandwich adapter, but I have alot of room to move the oil filter around. Is this on a 7g...or another car? On my Galant VR4 is a bit of a tight fit where the oil filter is and if I were to install a sandwhich adapter I wouldn't have no room at all to remove or install a oil filter. Though the issue with mine would be the 3 inch downpipe..but yours seem to be the O2 housing, which I never seen before.
Why are you using a sandwhich adapter...why don't you use the oil filter housing with the oil cooler ports?

It's not a 7g, 90 talon with a 4g63 non turbo. Put a lot of the parts I yanked from my wrecked 7g into this. Ecu swapped to turbo model, 2g MAF, 450cc injectors, crappy safc-2, cyclone intake (but forgot to yank the pressure switch I was using to activate the butterflies so right now it's not really doing it things correctly). Adjustable cam gears, yanked balance shafts, stock turbo pistons with total seal rings. Yanked all the emissions nonsense, a/c system, and cruise control.
Then it got cold out...so I was working on the sound and car-puter/touchscreen setup. Gettin my gauges back in etc...but its gettin warm again so back to business..
Why am i using a the adapter, because it came with the oil/tranny cooler so why not :)
What year did the filter housing come with external oil cooler ports? I'm guessing in the early 1g's? I'm thinking those filter housings may also be offset a bit towards the belt side so there's a bit more clearance.

Im using the oil filter housing off my JDM motor which would be the same as a 90(maybe 91 too) and I have no troubles with the oil filter hitting the downpipe. Also using just an Evo3 exhaust mani, stock 14b, and stock 1g o2 housing.
You might try an Evo3 o2 housing, they have a bit more of an angle to them.

Here are some pics Rob. Like Seth...my oil filter housing came with the JDM "RS" motor in the GVR4 now. I believe 90-91 4G63's came with the oil filter housing for the cooler lines. I have my cooler lines, oil pressure sensor (for my oil pressure gauge) and oil temp sensor (for my oil temp gauge) all tapped into my housing.
My O2 housing was custom made..so its 3 inch diameter...much bigger than the Mitsu O2 housings. My clearance issues with the oil filter is tight..but still able to install and remove the filter. A Mitsu o2 housing should provide even more space...so I can't figure out why yours is tight fitting. :?

why are you trying to run the sandwich adaptor in the first place.
just get a 1990 turbo oil filter housing
100x better than sandwich adaptors.
its thermostatically switched to bypass the oil cooler when temperatures are below the temperature that mitsubishi engineers determined was too cold.
you can find them all over tuners and ebay.
its what i run on mine.
you may also try running the evo oil filter.
its very small. about 2.5" tall.
