YAY ANother transmission problem...

Well heres the story., i bought my 01 GTZ V6 wrecked and im in the process of rebuilding it. When it was wrecked it pulled the passenger side axle apart at the inner CV joint. SO when i went to replace the axle i couldnt get the rest of the inner CV joint off. I just left it on there and i was going to let my friend put it on at his body/mechanic shop. So i finished putting the rest of the suspension and put the wheel back on.
I was needing to move my car a little bit down from where i had it parked, so i called and asked my mechanic if it was ok to move it a VERY small distance with out the axle in and he said it was ok.
So i get in start the car up, go to put it in drive, the rpmsdrop and you can tell that it was trying "go into gear"
I was like yes here we go. I give it gas and nothing?? its just like its reving the engine....
so i cycle through all gears. Park, Reverse, Neutral, and lower and nothing happens it just sits there.
The most weird thing is, is that the car will not even go into PARK!
Its like its stuck in Neutral no matter what, but you can here it like its changing into gear.
Is this because the axle is out of it? or is there a trans problem, because i kno nothing about transmissions.
I checked the transmission fluid and it was a reddish color and no bruning smell...so i have no idea what to do.

jack up the front of the car and see if the piece of the axle or the drivers side wheel spins, if it does then the tranny is fine

ill try that tomorrow. But what about the whole problem with it not going into PARK when you put the gear shifter in park....it just rolls freely

what do you think us manual guys do? ours has no park either, put up the ebrake

haha funny..lol I know but that would seem to be a potential problem with automatic that DOES NOT have park when it is supposed to.... Thats why im asking for help. :D

I got another question, is there a difference between the 4cyl. trans and the V-6 trans?

yeah the v6 trans is bigger and wont bolt up to an i4 engine

the part of the axel that you removed, which side was it on? If it was on the gear side then you really wouldnt have no park. No axle ya know.

well the part that was removed was the outer axle on the passenger side.

so does the pot turn or not when the car is in gear, and does it stop turning when in park? part #2

I dont see why it would move. With that gone all the power is going to be used to spin that side since its unloaded. There will be no park as the side without an axle will spin whichever direction to allow the other side to spin.

Thats what i been trying to get to the whole time. But wanted to make sure we were talking about the same thing. With that gone there should be no Park either.

sorry it took so long, had to go test everything out, my car is about 20 mins away from me right now at my house and im at my moms. Anyway i checked it and yes it does spin so i guess theres nothing wrong with it. And you all are right its because the axle isnt in there. That should of been simple enough to figure out for myself...lol But hey i guess thats the only way i will learn is to ask questions.
