RIPP Black Box testing at an end (results GT/GTS 5SPD)

Hey guys, sorry I haven’t been on but as it goes we’ve been burning the candle at both ends for some time now.

There are several SDS kits sitting at our shop awaiting shipping. We’ve called the owners of those kits explaining our progress and all were very happy to here from us.

All of you have been awaiting the official announcement of the SDS/Black Box as it stands now with the improvements of our testing. Some of the more hardcore guys have been calling in for weekly updates and we were more than happy to tell them the good or bad news.

None the less, our venture into the Black Box Technology has been an uphill climb from the start but in the end it was all worth it. We’ve spent several weeks testing and many hours at the Dyno making the stock ECU take to what it is we wanted it to do. Our goal was to make the most usable HP in the safest range, what we mean is, we wanted to keep our air/fuels in a very safe 12.5 (Safest power) range and our engine knock/ping (detonation) free.

We achieved just that, yesterday two experienced tuners and I went to the DYNO at DRT in Woodside Queens and laid it down for 10hours with 3 cars. Our results were very interesting the HP was not our main objective but curiosity got the best out of us.

    Our results:

    GT 5SPD (Foxomatic)
    WHP- 277
    Lb/ft- 269
    A/F- 12.5 across the board
    Boost- 7psi
    Gear- 3rd
    Internals- 9:1
    Heads- Stock
    Exhaust- Greddy
    Headers- AMSS RIPP ported
Fuel- 310cc injectors, 255 Fuel pump, 10: Fuel pressure regulator-
    FMU- RIPP Black Box
    Clutch- Stock
    Air/temps-Moderate Hot
    Ext/temps- 1200-1300

GTS 5SPD (Perry P. Non member)
    WHP- 290
    Lb/ft- 277
    A/F- 12.5 across the board
    Boost- 9psi
    Gear- 3rd
    Internals- stock 10:1
    Heads- stock
    Exhaust- stock
    Headers- AMSS RIPP ported
Fuel- 310cc injectors, 255 Fuel pump, 10: Fuel pressure regulator-
    FMU- RIPP Black Box
    Clutch- ACT (stock slipped)
    Air/temps- Moderate Hot
    Ext/temps- 1200-1300

    What does this mean?

Some of you may be wondering why we are excited about posting our results, as it is clear we were making more HP before!

The big news, as some of the more experienced guys will point out, is in the Air/fuels and torque numbers. You may remember all the AFR cars were lacking in the torque area, including my own R/T (335whp/236lb/ft). Also the air/fuels were always in the mid to high 13’s (lean). This was all a direct result of timing!

Timing makes or breaks a kit, now with the Black Box we are able to tune straight thru the boost and maximize our power band as well as make a super clean running kit. Our exhaust temps are down as is our fuel consumption and power comes on even quicker than before.

So our latest combination seems to be the one that works the best as our stage 1 kit
    RIPP SDS
    Vortech V5 G-Trim
    RIPP Blow off Valve
    RIPP Boost box
    Walboro 255 pump
    Malpasi Fuel pressure regulator/gauge
    310cc injectors
RIPP Black box preprogrammed 280WHP (350 crank)
    RIPP 2Bar map sensor
    All other necessary installation hardware

$3849.95 (Price will remain the same as before with additional hardware included)

For the moment the Black Box is reserved to the SDS guys as quantity is limited, software will not be available to the public until the systems are out there and running, and after which RIPP SDS distributors will get our software and be able to do any necessary adjustments. This is mainly due to the complexity of the tuning, its not real time like a Haltec or DFI, rather its analog deflection (ECU manipulation or bending). It’s rather difficult to grasp and we would rather not put the power in your hands until we can support tech on it. Please understand, once we are ready we will set up the proper support needed to explain working the Black Box on your stock ECU.

Our next tester is due in this week and in a stock internal V6 Automatic Stratus, we will be testing with it shortly after it arrives. We will again post our results and progress, we always appreciate the support and we welcome questions.

    Respectfully,

Many thanks to White Knight, Foxomatic, Perry P, Madmax, Yanster, and, Ralph E at DRT, for allowing RIPP/Myself to test and tune the Black Box on your cars and dealing with the good or bad. Your dedication to us makes us work harder to deliver our best. Your patience with us benifits all who we cannot reach and they to owe you.
