Definitely a tranny problem. Is it A/T or M/T?

It could be a shift solenoid thats gone bad or a heavily contaminated valve body if its A/T. I am sure you will see the car in person so just make sure the engine is really "healthy" as they say. The statement that her and her b/f don't know much about cars is a bit concerning.

I would even try to borrow a compression tester and do a compression test. Looks for oil leaks, inspect the drive belts, T belt, listen for odd engine noise, check all the fluids. Try to inspect as much as you can and depending what you observe, decide if its really a good deal or more work ahead of you type of deal.

Worth 500 bucks for sure, you could get most of that if not all out of the wheels probably. Go for it.

Thanks for the reply man...btw if it is the solenoid gone bad...is it inexpensive to repair? If the engine is good and everything else is working, I mite get this badboy :D

Shift solenoids aren't cheap...expect to pay $100 at least per solenoid. As far as replacing them I am not sure. I don't think it should require removal of the tranny, you can replace it if the car is up in the air. If its shift solenoids..it should be lighting up a CEL and if it is, get a OBD II scanner and get the trouble code. I posted all the OBD II codes on the "How To Tutorials" section.

If it doesnt want to move after it is warmed up you should check the fluid level cuz its probably very low. if it isnt in which gears will it not accelerate if it is all gears your a/t clutch plates are toasted if it is only one or two gears...shift soleniod. not hard to replace...worth the 500
