    6g72 questions

My question is i recently took my 4 cyl galant to the track and realized i just had the biggest upset of a life time our cars are not fast at all. so i have a question what is the difference between the galant 6g72 and the 3000gt 6g72 and when it says dual over head cam what does the extra cam do? and would it be possible to do a swap from the 4 cyl to the galant 6 cyl and or the 3000gt 6g72.

First off, the 6G72 DOHC engine in the 3000GT is not at all a direct swap for our cars - if you have ever seen one before, you'd know it's mounted opposite our engines. It just doesn't have an extra cam - there are 2 extra cams (one on each bank). You clearly don't understand how an OHC engine works if you are asking what the extra cam does. One cam controls intake valve timing, the other controls exhaust valve timing. The differences are greater than that - the ports are larger on the 6G72 DOHC as are the valve heads. I think it's in your best interest to just keep the 4G64 and not worry about swapping in a V6 (although it is possible to swap in the SOHC 24V 6G72, it's definitely not worth it).

A lot of the answers you are looking for can be found by searching (here and on Club3G).

Most prefer the 8g 6g72 swap if you want to go v6.
there's a bunch of thread on here and club3g if you need additional info on this.

The money spent on this swap would be equal or greater than buying a v6 Galant. But then again, you've already spent an arm and a leg for your current one...

What do you mean most prefer? I don't think anybody has actually wasted the money on such a silly swap before.

Prefer would be the "easiest" swap out of the bunch. I personally never seen anyone swapped it the two IMO would waste money better spent on other things.

BTW were you (OP) racing the 2 tone on the track????
