    Balance Shaft or Water pump

    I going to get the timing belt changed and some of the shops say change the water pump and some say the balance shaft whos right . Thanks

    you may wish to change the water pump since youre in there, as its a lot cheaper now than if it fails later.
    however, you will not be changin a balance shaft. Hes probably referring to the balance shaft belt. there are actually 2 timing belts on your particular car, one driving the cam, oil pump, and a single balance shaft, while the other drives only the other balance shaft.

    so i recommend replacing the pump if you have the cash, and definatly the balance shaft BELT. NOT the balance shaft itself.

    I replaced both belts, the water pump, and the auto-tensioner when I hit 90k not to mention the other stuff like oil change, filters, coolant, trans, etc...

    At the time of replacement, the belts were ok with little wear but my water pump definately needed to be replaced.
