HOWTO: Buy a rear disk brakes conversion

From the creator of “8G 5SPD Swap” and “How To Tie a Tie”, comes HOW NOT TO GET ROBBED ONLINE WHEN BUYING A REAR BRAKE CONVERSION.

STEP 1: Navigate your browser to car-parts.com
STEP 2: Fill in the exact information as in the picture bellow and click SEARCH

STEP 3: Select REAR CALIPER and click SEARCH

STEP 4: Scroll all the way down the page and start looking for actual results in the middle of all available pages.

STEP 5: Look for Mitsubishi Galant/Eclipse calipers, then give them a call and ask if they have whole car still. If they do tell them you want the entire rear assembly, tell them to just snip the e-brake cable and unscrew the brake line. I've done this a few times and i got everything for around $150 shipped.

Some people are on trying to exploit others. I remember once cat was saying he could get us deals on ballast for a retro. He wanted $200 for each ballast.

I see people get robbed here left and right, and on club3g. You are selling worthless junk. At least price it right, and there is no shortage of these calipers. People just need to learn how to search.

This is a good tutorial Goose. Pretty much on par compared to the "how to search junk yard tutorial" 8) This is important information because it does not just apply to calipers, but to any junk parts. There is one thing though: The person you are trying to pawn isn't jacking up other member's cash. It may look that way from the consumer POV but there's more to the story. You know there are Junkyards that are priced higher than a, let's say, a reputable place like car-parts.com. Yes you have to "search" and search carefully because prices "flux" every day (according to junkyard owners). Obviously, "he" did not buy these calipers from car-parts.com and selling them to you or else we'd be kicking "his" ass right about now . Instead, "he" went to a local JY along with the prices given to him. Keep in mind yesterday's prices are not going stay with today's prices if you notice the price went up last summer compared to the present day. I am deeply sorry if some people here were felt cheated and is now preparing to bash "his" financial credit, and "his" reputation for selling stuff that was originally expensive to begin with, but there are lot's of positive comments on "his" other FS stuff. According to the retail world, that's normal (I guess :? ) .

I've seen past members from TGC/GF/GS/3G/3G.org stealing, not shipping, running away w/ cash, or worse: not refunding the money for defective parts but obviously this person in question is not that kind of character.

Sorry about the rant. I think this info is an awesome method to use the "search function" more often and it should be on the tutorial forum and the FS section. 8)

EDIT: Oh, right it moved :D

Another reason why i posted this is because there are members here that i speak to and they say that "I went to car-parts and there was no option of rear brake assembly". The point is that you need to search for A caliper and then call them. Maybe this guy is not really stealing money from people but making a shitload because people can't search. Let me show you this one.

This is a remanufactured rear caliper sold on rockauto for $87. Its fully rebuilt, new bleeder valve, painted and new seals.
    http://www.cardone.com/English/club/...PARTNUM=191692

You would also need the backing plate which is another $100-125 with all the ebrake stuff at the dealer.

So how is it ok to charge people 250-300 for old, busted, rusted, burned calipers when a new setup is about the same price???

So now people know, and if anyone else buys these things for more then $180 shipped then they are idiots who got robbed.

Is there a full parts list for the rear drum to caliper brake conversion?

Do you need the rear hub assembly as well?

no you dont need the hub. To make it easier, you can find 95-99 2g Eclipse, 95-99 Sebring, 95-00 Avenger rear disk assembly which will fit 8g Galant
