if you dont use premium, you may suffer engine detonation, otherwise known as "ping".
The cars knock sensor will detect this, thereby reducing the ignition timing to eliminate it. It does this at the expense of a few horsepower.

the good news is this... if you live in a cold climate, you probably dont have to worry about "ping" until the weather warms up (although it is still possible".
also, if you dont mind potentiall losing a few HP, you CAN use the cheaper gas. its recommended by mitsu, but not 100 percent needed.

i personally DO suggest using it all the time, though..
Anyway, cost wise, we can do a general comparison:
    2.00/gal for 87, with a 12 gal fillup = $24
    2.30/gal for 91, with a 12 gal fillup = $26.4

Presuming doing a fillup twice a week for a month (4 weeks), that would be:
    (24 * 2) * 4 = $192
    (26.4 * 2) * 4 = $211.20

For the year, that would be:
    $2304 vs $2534.40, difference of $230.4

Of course the difference would be much larger as gas prices increase.

Down here the difference between 87 and 93 is only 20-25 cents/gal.

    Thanks for the link.

the difference wouldnt be that much greater with higher gas prices since all the prices would be higher, not just the price of premium. and usually the difference between regular and premium are the same.

im confused, here we have 87, 89, and 93 octane. which one would i use for premium, 89, or 93. how rare is it to have 93 is that only a texas thing? because i know oklahoma doesnt have 93 octane,

lastly, its kind of stupid that i get 250 miles to a tank, and theres no tradeoff. then i hop in my audi, and get 250 miles to a tank while hauling major ass. the 4g64 was not the right motor for this car. now i see why honda didnt use a d series engine on the accord and created the f22
RIP GALANT, GOOD MORNING BMW 330i

Theres no 91 up here in Massachusetts either. It's 87, 89, and 93 only. 93 being 30 cents more than 87.

Here in Baltimore the difference is only a quarter between regular and premium. Not that bad. And do all Galants come with a 12 gallon tank?

What about the prices of parts between the I4 and V6 engine? Are certain parts for the V6 more expensive then the I4?

There's a Shell by my house that has 93. All the local high end cars fill up there.

The difference, like you put it, is basically nothing!

How many times do we have to break it down for people? I know I've done it just here on TGC at least 3 times. If I could rep you here, I would.

"But I wanna save 30 cents next time I fill up!"

Then don't buy the $5 frappuchino after you fill your car up, you dumbass!

If you post stupid and incorrect information, you will get red nuggets.

I remember seeing Andy Rooney on 60 minutes saying he puts in half a tank of 89 and half a tank of 93 to get an averaged out 91. Does octane work that way???

Hey max, you can also grab some leather seats out of a 3g Eclipse (2000+) they are much more comfortable than the galants', are the bucket style, look really nice, and you can get them in leather :)
