    5spd Shifter Upgrades.

These all should be MUST buy mods for any 7g 5spd owner.

    First:
Energy shifter plate bushings. Cheap mod that replaces your SLOPPY SOFT stock bushings which makes shifts more precise. Comparison, old on left, new on right:

    Second:
Skateboard bearings to replace the crappy rubber bearings on the shifter cables at the trans. Simply take two skateboard or roller blade bearings and use a c-clamp to press them into the cable ends. Results are for smoother shifts, and easier to get into each gear.

(If you dont have an old skateboard or pair of rollerblades)

    Third:
Replica B&M Short shifter. Its adjustable between 2 different throws. At the shortest setting going through the gears is so quick and smooth when combined with the skateboard bearing mod and Energey shifter plate bushings.

Not for the 8g exactly, can use 3g/Evo parts though. Energy makes a kit for the Evo/3g, theres short shifters for both, and you can get the brass bearings for under the hood as well.

    Happy shifting!

Just a suggestion - make copies or screencaps of the eBay auction items, as those will be removed after a couple of months.

    Good stuff though!

yes. the energy baseplate bushings will fit 8g/evo/3g shifters.
there is also a 8g/evo/3g solid brass shift cable bushihng available. will do the same thing as the ball bearings.
    here is a set

    very very worth it.
    and the plate bushings

    also very very worth it.

Any chance you took down the dimensions of the bearings before you put them in?

Nah but you can use any Skateboard or rollerblade bearings, both are the same. Just will need to be pressed in with a clamp or shaved a bit so they fit perfect.

Does anybody know the dimensions for the metal bushings? I'm a machinist and can make some out of scrap aluminum. Just need to know the main diameter, the stepped diameter, and the hole thru. Thanks.

Is there any bearings that will fit in the 3g eclipse shifter cables? I took mine to a local Bike and Board shop but they had a tiny selection(I hate living in a small town) and all the bearings were too small

You could always measure the ID of the cable ends, measure the posts, and order some bearings online like mcmaster-carr or maybe msc direct.

    Here you go:

    http://speed-source.net/wordpress/?s=mitsubishi

The shifter cable and base bushings you will want are for the Evo 8 5-speed. Simple as that. I waited until this year to buy these and I can't believe I didn't do it when originally doing the manual swap a few years ago. They are such a great upgrade.
