    galant brake

My brake is squeeking pretty loud, especially in the afternoon. I also read from prev posts that this maybe because the brake pad.

so I got to the dealer and have them checked it. They said the brake pads is still thick and everything is fine and there is no need to change it.

My question is what causes this squeeking noise? is it because the hot summer weather? Anyway I got 11k miles on 2002 ES.

i can't really tell you what the cause of the squeeking is, since i can't hear it in person but it could be the fact that the brakes are dirty. my breaks squeek every few months and all i do is rip the wheel off and spray everything with brake cleaner and the squeeking goes away for a while. it could be somthing else thought. but maybe try that out. a can of brake cleaner is like 2 dollars.

Webhosting for less than $3 a month? put "pinoyesv6" as a promo code.

i think maybe it just the cheap brakes. I've got the same story. They sqeek for a lil while and then they get louder and louder and louder until i take em to the shop. They play around with them and say nothings wrong and send my car home. I've got 12,000 miles on my 02 ES i4. Brakes started sqeekin a less than a month after i got it. It had 3,600 miles on it when the problem began. The first time, they said it was damaged and that they fixed it. They refuse to give me new brakes and say the ones i got are fine.

Trust me, it's a problem with a LOT of Galants. Mine do the same thing, but the dealer inspected it and even admitted that the brakes on Galants make a lot of noise. Mine was attributed to hard pads that the dealer put on the car after I bought it. Yours might be the same thing. Like Pinoy said, get some brake cleaner and wash the brakes down. It took the noise away for a while.

i think it happens with all cars actually

squeaking it's the brake pads or rotors.

but man, when i went to get them changed it would still squeak, and the people there said something about the newness of the pads or tiny particles that are causing squeak. whatever, strange how some cars do and some don't.

how about that stop squeak spray from auto store? any good?

The only real way to stop the brakes from squeeking is to attack the cause, not the symptom. Under normal conditions metalic and semi-metalic and some ceramic pads will squeek. The squeeking is the product of the pad vibrating against the metal bracket that holds it in when the brakes are engaged. NOTE: I am referring to disc brakes that are not worn out and contacting the wear indicator. Cleaning the dust out is a temporary fix. The objective is to stop the vibration and suppress the noise

The best way to stop this is to buy some stop squeek paste from the local auto parts store. Remove your calipers. (This is why some shops don't do it correctly when you complain about squeeky brakes). Remove the pads and apply the paste liberally to the side of the pad that faces the caliper, not the rotor side. Let the paste dry for about 10 minutes or whatever it recommends on the tube. Reinstall the pads in the brackets and reinstall the calipers. I did this when I installed my new rotors and pads in February and they haven't squeeked at all. This works for me, you do what works best for you.

Kinda like running a wet finger along the rim of a crystal glass concept right?

Squeaking isn't bad, wait for the brake pulsation at about 25,000 miles.LOL The rotors on the galant seem to warp easily so be ready for that, mine never sqeaked until I put new pads in and that lasted about a month, sometimes it's just the material you get.
