Evo 8 ECU in 94-98 Galant Discussion

Well ive been collecting information for some time and I share this for everyone's knowledge.

Ive made the transition from Evo 8 ECU to 94-95 galant ECU harness, so we too can enjoy all flashing and tuning capabilities. It took some time, this is just a "prototype" conversion, I still need to figure out some of the AC pins. It is done from a GS model point of view - already running coil packs and knock sensor. I can do another one from S,ES and LS - running distributor, but that will be later.

    Evo 8 pinout

    94-95 7g pinout

    Evo to Galant conversion

Now the best part: Since the Galant has 3 ECU plugs which are actually the same as the plugs of the Evo 8 ECU, and if the smallest plug (yellow) of the EVO ECU want there all pins would have matched. Still have to swap a few pins, but thats no biggie.

For Red and Blue plugs all numbers match, but still a couple of pins need to be added or swapped. If yellow wasnt there the green 71 for the Evo ECU would have matched the green 51 for the Galant ECU. So the entire plug except for the pin 73 MDP sensor and pin 79 Data link connector are identical (p'n'p)

i got diagrams on how to go from a 2G ecu to a evo 8 ecu

The color-coated pins indicate those that need to be swapped/changed/disconnected:

    Swap pins 8 and 22
Connect pin 32 from the EVO ECU to pin 20 on the vehicle wiring for the eclipse
Connect pin 34 from the EVO ECU to pin 21 on the vehicle wiring for the eclipse
    Disconnect pin 87
    Disconnect pin 42

    Ok, here it is.

    Evo 8 ECU pinout

    96-98 Galant ECU pinout

Evo8 to 96-98 Galant ECU conversion

A very weird change of pins. The 96-98 ECU pretty much kept the same configuration as 94-95, but it has an extra plug (the smallest one). Even the pin numbers are switched

    Another view of the conversion:

A bit info on OBD plugs used for flashing.

Found this on DSMTuners. Not my creation, but to keep everything in one thread I post it here. Big thumbs up for whoever did it.

    1g ECU pinout

and the difference from 94 Galant ECU pinout. Looks very similar, ut plugs are switched from left to right

    Again Evo 8 ECU pinout

    1g DSM to Evo8 conversion

There is a small connector next to the DLC that resemble the ecu flash plug on the GS, not sure about the other models.

Just wanted to Bump this and say Awesome Work MKO,

I used this on a gs build and so far the ecu is getting power and it looks like everything will work.
Iam unable to flash the ecu though, I think it has to do with Evo/pin79, You specify "add" but did not know where the other end of the wire was to connect too.

After a bit of research I found that Evo/pin79 should be attached to pin26 on the Diagnostic Port.

Also Evo/pin62 should be connected to obd connector pin7

I haven't tried this yet but I will hopefully be able to test read/Write with Ecu Flash this weekend and post some results.

I got these pics and information from http://evoecu.logic.net/

Armandotech Its a bit of work but if you start a thread with a plan of how you are going to execute, I am sure people will chime in.

Havn't been back to update in sometime but the flashing works.... No start yet, just a bunch of sputtering and pops :(. Will be going over my wiring.
