    5 speed swap pros\cons

It looks like I will be doing a 5 speed swap on our 7G, we are on our 3rd AT that doesn't work at all... but heres the catch, the person with the most money to spend on the car doesn't think the 5spd swap is worth the money. (it needs new rings soon and a new AC compressor and new paint) on top of the transmission.

I think this car is worth the time and money since I will be doing all the work myself we will save a $1000 or so on labor and I have a great ability to finding parts rather cheap when I need to lol.

Help me prove to him that this car is worth the money and not sending to a junk yard.

well, we already put $1200 into the AT.. he thinks thats more than enough and since it still doesn't drive its junk. i think for about $700 I could turn it into a oil burning 5 speed beast lol

if your motor are running, u can wait to repair it, go to the swap, it can be done in less than a week. and the a/c. that inst a problem,

    I contacted the shop..

Good news. We got the AT with a 6 month warranty. paid $550. we got $200 back when the first one didn't work, and now 3 of them don't work so I told the place I want a MT as the replacement.

There going to get me every last part i want or need to do the swap at no extra charge to me.. $350 for the whole swap..

This might be the cheapest 5 speed swap ever lol

peano made the point of no cons going to 5 speed and he is absolutly correct. when i got mine i was going to leave it auto and turbo it with a new motor etc, but after putting on the turbo for a short period of time i realized the auto wasnt the way to go. i too went through many auto trannies (4) before i did my swap 2 weekends ago. i love being 5 speed. traffic with a stiff clutch sucks but im over it and its nothing that you cant get used to. there are pics and info over at peanos website for the whole swap if you need help.

and for the other things on the car, learn to live with no A/C ive been without it for 2 years now with no issues. after the swap just save your money to save up for future things that need attention and do the paint last, i hate nothing more than a good looking car that doesnt run.

also, what are some of the details for the setup like the clutch/ flywheel etc

its going to be 100% oem for right now. the shop is gathering all the parts for me and I will do the install. I can live with no AC but the car is used for a older woman who is on dialysis to get there and back and with days here getting up to 100-115 outside she really needs it.

    here are some cons.

No one else can drive your car if youre too drunk to drive.
You cant easily eat/talk on cell/drink while driving in traffic.
Road head is harder with the shifter in the way.
car will be harder to sell if you ever sell it
