well if u dont change to a 5 speed i think you should get a level 10 rebuild kit from www.levelten.com they claim to be for high performance engines
I know the 4G64 will generate more torque at identical RPMs but I need to know what will be bulletproof as a daily driver.
I already have a complete setup to turbocharge the 4G64 and also have access to a 4G63 parts car to get the head. Here is what I have so far:
brand new 1g turbo
brand new 2g manifold
brand new tubular 02 housing
Tial wastegate
Spearco FMIC
Apex'i Super AFC
RC 370 injectors (I know, I probably need 450's or 550's)
Boost gauge
Fuel pressure gauge
Exhaust temp gauge
brand new 1G blowoff.
Car is currently an automatic but I am not beyond switching to a 5 speed if it will be much more durable. What needs to be done to make the auto hold up??
4G64 would run stock bottom end for now.

yea i agree if you gonna have that kinda power, either get a level ten rebuilt auto tranny or swap a 5 spd in... the autos on these cars r considered pretty weak, plus 5 spds are so much more fun
id stay clear of lvl ten rebuilds, they are not as strong as everyone makes them up to be

So, 4g64 with 4g63 head and turbo or just a 4g63t??

i say do the hybrid....it will be more touqy(sp) than the 2.0 and it wont perform as well at higher revs....but it makes more power sooner than the 2.0...
That's kinda what I was thinking. I think I may put the head on and run this engine for a while. I will look for another shortblock so I can put some Eagle rods and Ross pistons in for an insurance policy.

i wish i had gone for the hybrid engine, but i had already bought an engine before i researched into it. ofcourse, i would get a built bottom end, with a bit lower compression, 8.5:1 or maybe 9:1. also, don't think the 4g64 can't rev that high, it should be able to rev to 7000-7500 easily if built properly. i wouldn't expect numbers like 9000rpm or anything, but 7000 is more than good enough for me. plus, the hybrid would have much better spool, i could live with that. after i go awd, i think i'll swap out my bottom end for a 4g64. but realistically, my fwd can't even handle the power that the 4g63 can put out (my car's a daily driver, i'm not putting huge slicks on it, even for the track, i run it on the track like i run it on the street). i think awd will yield better performance results for me than .4 more liters. if i had awd on the other hand, i'd love to get .4 more liters.
looks like i was a bit off on those rev specs, i thought they were a bit higher :

4G64: (A 2.4L 4G63? Yep.)
Stepping the ante up one more time in the quest for more hp, we developed the 2.4L DOHC 4G63/4G64 engine swap for 1st and 2nd generation DSM's. Providing more than 130 extra ft/lbs of torque and 50 more hp. Piloted our race car to an astonishing 10.06 @ 140 mph without the aid of Nitrous, and a new best of 9.623 second ET with a 152mph BEST. Still being able to rev until 8500 RPM.
ahhh my favorite site....damn i wish i still had a 7g
theres a 10s mirage out there in florida that has the hybrid, 4g64 block w/ a 4g63 head.
7g for life!
and to think with all the shops, and auto wreckers I know it should be easy for me to get my hands on a 4g63 head.
Not how fast your car goes but how good u drive going fast.

4g64T will cost you money to get it running to similar numbers as compared to a 4g63t...You WILL have to build the bottom end stronger with lower compression.
Thing is with the 4g64t and DOHC it isnt very reliable and is more of a all or nothing motor...its either really well built or its shit. I have heard some people running into sitautions with these setups..The 4g64T when built will put higher numbers and will help turbo spool up but we are talking about numbers over 400whp.
Your drivetrain will not be able to handle that and will spin through 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and part of 4th with that power. So if u have AWD and building a drag car and HAVE money the 4g64t is a smart move to make..
But if you want a cheaper more reliable setup i would go 4g63t...The motor has low compression, i know guys putting down 395 rear wheels horsepower...yes i said it...with a stock bottom end. The motor is very reliable and there are reasons it was put in a EVO and DSM's for over a decade...So if you have money go 4g64t and built it...not to mention you will definatly want a Decent Engine Management system to control your motor with a hybrid engine like that...You cant just use piggy back computers and such...I know a honda guy that turbocharged the b18c1 motor and its built and still runs like shti...needs to go Hondata to fix the fuel maps and etc...
4g63T if u on a budget and want reliably and ease of modding.
/ what he said /
Looks like I'll be going 4G63T. I want to build this car on an extreme budget. Anyone have a engine trans combo for sale??
Ryan
check on dsmtrader.com they're more likely to have one
Thanks, sabzi5858. I will probably look for a complete donor vehicle to be sure I have everything I need. If I end up going 5 speed, I'll probably look for a 95 one; I have heard many people are having good luck with those. May go ahead and upgrade a few of the internals while I'm at it to ensure the thing shifts the way it should.
Ryan
wait wait wait...do you have an 8g? if u do there maybe a problem. the 4g63 wont bolt up becuz the 4g64 in there is rotated differently...correct me if im wrong but woul need an evo motor
