The Gtech pro is like $300 right? I can't put any faith in a device that calculates speed and horsepower by how fast a little switch moves when you pound the gas. Remember the Gtech just attaches to your windshield and plugs into the cigarette lighter. It doesn't really connect to anything. It's measurements are taken from the inertia of the vehicle. Not very accurate in my opinion.

I had the gtec meter and I sent it back, because I didnt get good readings. So I called the company and they said it was because I upgraded my spark plug wires and they were throwing it off because part of the meter reads the volts from the car, so I got my money back.

I have one and I love it. Many people have done independent tests of them and they are very accurate. They tend to be a little optomistic (by about 2-3% which isn't much), but they are extremely consistent. Here are a couple links that I used myself when deciding whether to get one:

    http://www.caddyinfo.com/ap22review4.htm

Additionally, one magazine (I think Road and Track) tested it against their $10,000 testing equipment and they felt that the G-Tech is an extremely good buy. They were impressed with it. Look on ebay and you can get the basic unit for under $70 shipped, that's where I got mine.

You can read all about how it works on their webpage. The bottom line is that it works really well. You do have to be careful about setting it up properly if you want to get exact readings. It's helpful for testing suspension settings or even getting a rough idea of hp from a modification. Again, you need to set it up properly, which often involves finding a nice flat stretch of road to use it on. That can sometimes be the hardest part.

i have one but never really tested it since every test it performs, situation you would need to break the law if you were on a public road. if i could get out on the track or a remote highway i could test it more.

i did do a whp test up to 80mph from a dead stop onto the highway and it read something like 176hp.. sounds about right since we estimate my car at around 225hp to the crank. the weight used was 3250lbs. which is stock weight.
