This thread is created to inform and explain what power modifications can be done to a 7g Galant. Please post a short explanation and picture to clarify what the modification improves. Please do no ask questions!!! For more info please check out the tutorial section.
INTAKE
Short Ram Intake
Adapter is needed for the MAS sensor
Minimal gains. It's located in the hot engine bay.
Cold Air Intake
You'll see more gains than short RAM. Easiest way to make is from intercooler pipes or customized from another car.
Throttle Body
Galant's stock TB is 48mm. 60mm TB off 1g Eclipse will introduce more air into the engine.
Since the connectors for idle control are different and Mitsubishi TBs are known for their idle surge, a FIAV block off plate is needed to make your idle nice and smooth.
EXHAUST
Headers
Available off 4g63 1g Eclipse. These are not bolt on to the Galants stock catalytic converter.
High Flow Catalytic converter
Available from 2 1/4 to 3'' diameter. Will reduce the pack pressure when turboed. The only con is the it will light up your CEL for rear oxygen sensor.
Cat Back Exhaust
Available from 2g Eclipse /exp. AWD/ from 2 1/4 to 3'' diameter. Requires a little extending for perfect fit.
Turbo Chargers and Components
Turbo Chargers
13g
Available off 1g Eclipse automatic. Cons: 5 cm housing, very, very restrictive. Pros: super quick spool up, full boost at around 2k. The turbo is good for low end power.
14b
Available from 1g Eclipse 4g63T with manual transmission nand USDM 6g VR4s. Cons: small 6cm housing, very restrictive. Pros: quick spool up. Turbo is good for low to middle range power.
16G
Variations: small 16g , big 16g, super 16g
Available from JDM 6g VR4, Evo 1-3. Pros: large 7cm housing, less turbo lagging. Turbo is spooled by 2800-3000 rpms. Good for mid range power.
Aftermarket turbos:
Gaskets
Oil Feed Line
DSM Manifold
Available from:
1g Eclipse : 2'' outlet
2g Eclipse 2 1/4'' oulet
Evo 3 Manifold
Available from Evo 3 2.5'' outlet, better flow
Stainless Steel Tubular Manifold
Available from Ebay 2.5'' outlet Cons: cracking
DSM turbo housing
6cm inlet
7cm turbo housing
7cm inlet
DSM O2 housing
1g Eclipse 2'' inlet 2'' outlet
2g Eclipse 2 1/4'' inlet 2 1/4'' outlet
Evo 3 O2 housing
Larger inlets and outlet than DSM housings 2.5'' inlet/outlet
Stainless Steel O2 Housing
Megan SS Tubular O2 housing outlet: 2.5''
Open Dump Tubular housing outlet: 2 1/4'' or 2.5''
SS tubular O2 housing outlet: 2 1/4'' or 2.5''
Downpipe
Available from Ebay. Inlet: 2.5 - 3'' Outlet: 2.5 - 3''
Porting and Polishing
DSM O2 housing ported to 2.5'' inlet/outlet
DSM manifold ported to 2.5'' outlet
DOHC SWAP
Oil passages needed to be plugged. 4g63 head does not use these.
Camshafts
Available from many suppliers and durations: 264, 272, 280, 288. Stock 1g Eclipse with manual transmission are 252/252; with auto transmission - 244/244. 2g Eclipse manual/auto 252/252
Head Gasket and Bolts
Timing Belt and Gears
Either adjustable cam gears or 1994 Galant GS timing gears.
Unfortunately, there isnt a super strong t-belt for 4g64. Only stock available off 1994 Galant GS

Hey just wondering if I put some EVO 3 injectors in my 4g63 N/A would I need to upgrade anything else for it to perform properly? Like airflow meter?
Thanks
No, not unless you are running an engine management system.
I need power asap am auto so first step would be go manual?? I got cai, 2.5 full exhaust and no balance shaft still too slow i need sonethign beter and i i plan to go turbo, manual tranny would be a priority right?

do you know of any other 4g63 N/A cars?
The only way to make much power on a 4 cylinder is to rev it to the moon or go forced induction.
I'm sure someone has built a destroked NA (naturally aspirated) '64 at this point. That would be the way to get high revs. I'd be trying to hit 10-11k which would require some serious work to the tranny too. The plus side is the tranny is less likely to break so long as the shift forks are tough. NA motors are also very responsive. The downside is that it would be very expensive for not a lot of power.
Forced induction is the only way to make substantial horsepower. It can also be made relatively cheaply. The downside is it is less responsive than an NA. Some of the same tricks for NA apply to FI engines, ie: cold air intake, larger throttle body, higher flowing exhaust. Turbo engines make more power down low which is hard on gears but easier to shift.
The information on a limited slip differential is very important for FWD cars. Without one you'll just smoke one tire and not accelerate. The inserts are not recommended by Team Rip Engineering, a specialist in DSM transmissions. The reason is that they wear out your front differential and can cause failures that take out the rest of the transmission. If you plan on staying FWD do it right and go for a clutch or mechanical LSD such as Kaaz or Quaife.

I'm working on it on the NA part... The long rod combo on the 2.4L is good for 9K rpm just need very good cams with a rapid ramp rates like JUN 272 or Kelford 272, along with a good header and IM combo.
An Evo I-III Front LSD from Ralliart or FTO LSD but their are hard to find and expensive. The information on a limited slip differential is very important for FWD cars.
