Hi all,
New bloke here from Melbourne, Australia. I thought I'd come check your forums out!
Been sneaking around for a wee while, and I'm loving some of the stuff you guys and girls do with your USDM Galants!
I've got an 8th gen 98 model JDM Galant VR4 type S, i imported it in may 09 and took delivery in october that year. It was a bog stock Type-s, with a 2.5ltr 6A13TT twin-turbo V6, 5spd automatic and the famous AYC rear differential. Kept it stock for six months then made the mistake of fitting a boost tee and it all went south from there
Since then i've been through four different exhausts, done a manual conversion, fitted a (much) bigger intercooler, replaced the boost tee with an electronic boost controller and lots of other stuff, big and small. I haven't opened the block YET but i do plan to within the next year.
Anyway, some specs:
Chassis: Mitsubishi Galant VR4 EC5A Type S
Engine bay/power mods:
*Greddy 600x300x76mm FMIC (almost didn't fit!)
*5Zigen hard piping kit, sprayed pearl black to match the car
*Greddy Profec B spec 2 electronic boost controller, set at 12 PSI (hits fuel cut any higher thanks to the bigger cooler and bigger dumps, need to get that raised)
*NGK Iridium 7 plugs
*ICE Ignition leads
*Walbro 255 Litre per hour fuel pump, soon to be hotwired to battery voltage
*Tomei fuel pressure regulator waiting to be fitted
*Transmission converted to 5spd manual with custom combination of Exedy Evo 7-9 and VR4 clutch components
*Had an HKS SSQV3 BOV fitted but i removed it as they're all kinds of illegal here, and blatantly obvious.
Exhaust:
*Custom 2.5" dumps merging into 3" mild steel exhaust, de-cat, and a varex adjustable cannon. Awesome blowback but can be quite loud, i don't think it suits the car and am looking to replace it with something a little more subtle.
Suspension/brakes:
*Stock ride height (still!)
*Selby's front (24mm) and rear (27mm) uprated sway bars, set for mild oversteer
*World Suspension tie rod ends/rack ends/drop links
*Cusco Version 1 front underbody brace
*Full set of Evo 8 brembo calipers waiting for the Enkeis to be fitted, they won't fit under stock rims.
Interior:
*Smoked face high-vis backlit dash
*Factory Recaro bucket seats
*Factory Momo steering wheel
*Ralliart gear knob
*Custom black italian leather shift boot with red stitching, to match the overall black and red theme of the interior, and the rest of the car.
*Climate control and the usual creature comforts, plus corner sensors and a strange japanese electronic tollway system that talks to you when you start the car.
Exterior:
*Black side turn indicator covers
*Re-wired the turning fog lights to come on with the main fogs
*Added gas struts to the bonnet
*I have a set of Enkei GTC-01s sitting in the garage waiting to go on, 18x8.5 +30mm offset. Just need tires.
*In the middle of trying to fit some USDM 5w/21w turning lamps to the headlights, ordered replacement sockets but the matching loom plugs are impossible to source in australia.
I'll add some photos soon as I'm about to go cook the kids dinner.
Cheers all!

Ok here they are! As you could probably tell, the exterior is almost completely standard, so it looks nothing out of the ordinary. Which works quite well for me, as i dont get any police attention, and all the local plebs confuse Galants/Legnums with a locally made mitsubishi called a Magna, so no-one gives me a second thought, until i'm burning off ahead of their cast-iron V8...
Apologies, most of these photos are out-dated and phone camera shots. The wifey won't let me use the good camera for the car
When I first took delivery:
On show at a local car show, promoting a new drag strip for Melbourne:
Hotwired foglights:
The first exhaust - HKS stainless 3" cat back. Droned way too much.
Brembos, freshly painted:
Cusco brace:
Greddy cooler and Walbro pump, and before and after shot of cooler/hard pipe fitting:
Note the multicoloured silicon joiners.... i was too impatient to go buy some of all the same colour from ebay.
How she sits now:
As you can see, not so different on the outside to when I first got it. Goes better though:)
And yes, needs low. Badly.
Welcome 2 TGC!! nice clean VR-4...Keep us updated with the mods

Beautiful. I so badly want everything in your engine bay. :]
The key to Immortality is first living a life worth remembering.
Confirmed for jelly.
Thanks for the kind words guys, it's my pride and joy! Mitsubishi Motors Australia isn't really any better, we missed out on lots of awesome cars, including these, but we're allowed to import them all now, with a whopping great tax added to the cost...
Isaurio, the fender flares are standard on the type-S trim level.
As far as future mods go, I've got the Enkei GTC-01s to go on, plus the brembos, finish the USDM front indicator conversion (just need source the loom plugs) and fit some FRP eyelids to the headlights. After that, get some coilovers, fit a coil-on-plug setup one of the OzVR4 guys designed (Naughtika, i've seen him on here somewhere) and get the ECU reflashed to properly utilize the coil-on-plug ignition, and to run more boost. Once I hit about 200AWKW I'll be looking into a twin TD04 conversion or similar.
Very nice looking car! Needs a drop but other than that its beautiful
Definitely jelly. That's probably one of the sexiest cars I've ever seen.
