just cut some plastic and fit it in there to cover the wires
You should be able to find a dash install kit for a 1/2 din equalizer.
I've been looking to find a pocket to put in there so I can throw stuff in there.

If that's just layin there, it won't be secure causing wires to come loose and give you problems. Get the above mention kit, so it's mounted, secure and with no gaps. You may have to modify with a Dremel if one is not available... razor blade with a steady and careful hand.
