Mitsubishi sold VR4 models of this gen in the US...isn't it the same 4G63 in the DSMs?

definitely not a VR4 and i know i cant convert it to one either, I wish i could do a AWD conversion from a GS-X but i doubt it, i heard the subframes are different.....not sure if its a 6 bolt or a 7 bolt 4g63....

You can put a small to mild turbo setup in it, 2g maf, fuel pump, injectors front mount. And what year was it made? If it was early 92 it's a 6 bolt and can handle much more than the 7 bolts. It also has a 9.0-1 compression ratio and not the 7.8-1 like the turbos so faster spool and more power with a 16g setup.

Denver..you know what we talked about already so you know my input.

6bolt or 7bolt..both can make the same power, both are 4g63's. Now for the sake or arguing about crankwalk that has seemed to be solved due to 7 bolts being more delicate with engine lubrication and oil squirters being more prone to "debris" and clogging up due to a sensitive check valve. Solution...change your oil on time and use a quality oil filter or swapping oil squirters from a 6bolt to the 7bolt

There is a difference in the FWD and AWD e39a/b chassis which makes it a bit difficult and not cost effective to convert to AWD.

ima keep it FWD, but im going to slowly plan out my options, first thing im doing is rebuilding the engine no matter what, so once i have it out, i'll know what my next step is

Why do you want to rebuild the engine?

stock 6 bolts can make more power stock and has nothing to do with crankwalk. just look at the 2 rods next to each other.

Comparing the rods yes...6 bolts are beefier, but making power is now a blown myth.

They have been guys since 06 making 500-600hp on a stock bottom end 7bolt. Evo 2-4 having been running 7bolts for years and been making strong reliable power.

Either or..if you plan to make 500+hp on a 4g63 anyways and run it hard regularly....you should upgrade internals anyways.

I was just asking because there could have been something wrong with it or something. You could just be rebuilding to handle a turbo or something to like changing the pisons for forged pistons.

nah engine is strong, but i'd rather be safe than sorry, i may boost in the future, so i'll make the necessary upgrades as needed when rebuilding

my plans are to completely gut the body, clean up everything, gonna do this car one step at a time and get it fully cleaned, then pull engine and transmission, clean out the engine bay and then go to work, body upgrades include JDM front and rear bumpers, clear or amber corner markers, vr4 lower skirts, evo brembos with 5 lug conversion, as far as interior goes, the Evo 8 interior (front and rear seats) fits with minor mods, so i might go with that, or something different, OEM seats are in great condition but i dont ever leave anything stock lol....1g short shifter and i'll figure out the rest as time goes on, doing alot of research on whats available for the interior and exterior but im gonna keep it clean and simple, not sure if i wanna go with JDM heads or the 93 Crystal heads...so all in due time :)

Kev, the rods are stronger and the higher power in the 2g 7 bolts an evos are the higher compression ratio. Also Evo rods look like normal 7 bolt rods but are stronger as well.

Good luck with the car. I always wanted to find a 6g GSX as a nice daily
