Alright, has the trans fluid been changed before? As in with regular intervals? If not, DO NOT CHANGE THE FLUID. You will cause more harm loosening up all the gunk holding the clutch plates and such together, and you can bet it'll start to slip into gears.

Highway miles in general are easy on the engine, but going on your other thread...CHANGE YOUR TIRES! That would be high up on my priority list, after all...it's the one thing keeping your Galant glued to the road. If you can't, go back to the stockers with the correct tire size if you can.

Also, I've done many long trips myself. If you can, bring a friend, or if you have a girlfriend, driving alone isn't only boring...it can be dangerous if you're starting to get tired. Not just you dozing off behind the wheel...but risking pulling off on the side of the road, in the middle of nowhere to take a power nap. Not cool in an unknown area to you. Switching out will make your trip faster too, so you can catch up on sleep, and keep going with your buddy behind the wheel.

Flushing the tranny on our G's does nothing but good to it. Ive heard the myth and frankly I don't believe gunk holds metal moving parts together.

Another concern is Timing belt, ever been done? Other than that I would trust the car no problem.

    LOLOLOLOL

It's not a myth, I've seen it time after time. I know plenty of transmission techs that say the same thing, it's common knowledge in the trade, if an auto transmission has never been serviced for it's regular intervals, and been left alone for too long, DO NO MESS WITH IT. Problems will happen.

Most cars I've seen have intervals of 35K to 45K between services.

I've seen the transmission flush deal on here many times. Search it for relevance.
