Posted by intakeitup - cold air intake

I had a cold air intake and went into a deep Puddle and the engine sucked up some air but it was not that big a deal.
How about afe power, they seem to be priced about the same?

How can you install a cold air intake without the chrome pipe??

How about you buy a short ram intake, and you won't have to worry about water.

If you post stupid and incorrect information, you will get red nuggets.

I got that $35 Cold air intake and it's fine.

My gf's dad has an Econoline work van since he's a contracter and he did the craziest shit. He bought a cold air inatake filter but all the piping was PVC!!! I was like woah that's awesome since it's air/water proof doesn't rust or crack, it's also very strong and why people use them in houses and a ton of a lot cheaper.

Houses don't have the temperature extremes that underhood components get exposed to, I'd be cautious with that as PVC can melt at as low as 212 degrees F.

Not questioning his skills but it's not something I'd do. As the stuff nears its melting point it looses ability to sustain higher pressures as it gets brittle with heat. It's probably fine, it's probably not a boosted engine, but I'd rather get the right thing and not have to worry about it. Now if he used ABS, that's a whole 'nother story. Much better heat resistance.
