This is why Manybrews is semi-correct about rotors

This is an article (a long one) detailing why some people choose "normal" rotors, while others use cross-drilled or slotted. It's very in-depth by a manufacturer, should prove to be enlightening for those of you that keep asking "why or why shouldn't I..." questions regarding rotors.

"I have not failed 700 times. I have not failed once. I have succeeded in proving that those 700 ways will not work. When I have eliminated the ways that will not work, I will find the way that will work." - Thomas Edison

Hehe.. amusing, the two posts contradict themselves:

    >It was an effective solution, but today's friction materials do not exhibit the same gassing out phenomenon as the early pads.

    >When the friction surfaces of a rotor are smooth and flat, there is no means of escape for the gases and dust which build up between pad and rotor. / The drill holes (which are sometimes called "gas relief openings) provide an exit route for the dust and gas.

    >Contrary to popular belief they don't lower temperatures (in fact, by removing weight from the rotor, the temperatures can actually increase a little)

    >The holes are also commonly labelled "cooling holes" because of the improvements they make in this area.

even if you dont read about it at all...cross drilled and slotted rotors would make logical sense to prove the point that they're better for a variety of reasons, and as always with any upgrade, there are a few minor drawbacks.
