we need to know how wide the wheel is to give you an answer.
im just wondering if a 17" 5 lug with a 40 offset will fit a 2001 ES galant with the 4cylinder.
it says they will fit 5-100 or 5-114.3 bolt pattern...if this helps and they do fit can you suggest a tire size? thanks a lot
most likely yah it will. its only if you were getting 17x8's with a 225 tire that fitment becomes an issue. for the most part though 17's are almost always 7" wide so yah. you're fine.
i think the width is either 7 or 7.5...either one will fit?
How about 18x7.5's with 225/40/18's? Will they rubb or is that what it's recommended for the 8G? (4-cyl.)

225 is when you start tempting the rubbin gods. moreso if you drop it.
7" - 7.5" will be fine as long as you are using 205-215
Considering both responses....Will it be logical to say that if I get rims with offset of 42 (not 45) I have to use tires thinner than 225's?

you sould b fine at +42mm offset since the wheel will only stick out 3mm more than mine (assuming you get 7.5" wide rims, if you get 7.0" wide rims then you will have no problems). my car is dropped about 2.5", however if you correct the rear camber after this kind of drop you may rub the rears unless you roll the fenders, as rear camber correction pushed the tops of the wheels out in the back. also if you understand tire sizing, if you get narrower tires and keep the series a constant (40 in this case), the tire will become shorter as the series number is simply a percentage of the width (40 means 40% of 225 in 225/40zr18). since stock is only 205 allready, you want to go as wide as you can which in this case is 225 (some people have fit 235 and even 245 bu there were rubbing issues at 245). bottom line, DO NOT get 215/40zr18.
i'm scared about mine...i'm gettin em mounted this week. 17x8 40mm offset.

if you lower you may have to roll the rear fenders. with a +40 offset, the rim will stick out 6mm more than stock and the rim will b .25" (6.35mm) wider on each side than 7.5". total extra clearance needed will be about 12.35mm or about .5". you should b ok. make sure to get 225/45zr17 as 215 is only 10mm wider than stock 205/55r16.

like i said... for the 8G, you want 18x7.5 +45mm w/ 225/40zr18. the wheel offset should b supplied by the retailer of the wheel. as for the height of the tire, you have no choice in getting low profile tires (you can't simply get taller tires) since getting anything taller would make the overall circumference too large and your speedo readings would b completely off and you would also start to run into suspension clearance issues. if you are worried about bending or rim or having a rough ride, stick w/ 16's or 17's. btw, stock offset on the 8G is 46mm.Originally Posted by GaLaNtKeV99
How rough is your ride? My boy who has a '01 8G with 17's says his car's ride sucks...especially after he dropped it!
probably got crappy springs...or dropped it too much without getting struts. there's a lot of factors that go into a drop and how it feels afterwards.Originally Posted by El Niño
