    Radio Code ???

Ok, I called my closest dealer today since I have the day off, and asked about the radio code. They told me that all I needed to do was pull the radio out of the dash far enough to read the serial number on the label on top of the radio. They said they could punch in that number into their computer and it would tell me the correct radio code. So I pulled it out, and called them back a gave them the code. No good. He said my serial number doesn't come up when he inputs it into the puter. So we call the numbers out to each other back and forth and still no go. He says my serial number is different than the ones he's seen before, but can't tell me why mine is different. Does anyone have any idea about this? Is there any other way I can get the code? I want to put on the CAI I ordered when it comes in, but I was told I would need that code if I took the MAS off. What do I do now? I read on here somewhere that the dealer could take the code off the ECU, but when I asked the dealer about it he said that wasn't possible. I asked if he was sure, so he asked someone else there, and they agreed that the only way to get the code was to run the serial number off the radio. Are these guys full of shit or what? Should I call another dealer? I really hope not, because the other dealer is only an hour away, but another one would be further. Oh and my G is an 02 ES I4, bone stock drivetrain. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

are you sure you are reading the serial number??

but yea, you don't need to input the radio code if you only disconect the battery for a short time, usually like 10-15 mins. but if you disconnect it for longer you will need a code.

maybe if u want, go to that close dealer with your head unit and get them to look at the radio and show you which one is the serial

Webhosting for less than $3 a month? put "pinoyesv6" as a promo code.

They sound like morons... anyway, I guess you could take the radio out at the dealers then they would have no excuse for you.... make them call the factory!!! They owe you that at the very least!

If all else fails you could use that as an excuse to get a new system!

Ha ha, oh geez. Come on Pinoy, give me some credit. It's a little white label with the part number, some specs on the radio, a bar code, and the bottom says "SERIAL NUMBER" and the number follows. It's like a 9 digit number with a space and a "A" at the end.

Anyway, is it possible to put on a CAI without needing the code then? I know some with some cars peeps have a 9V battery on a cigar lighter plug on the end that they use to make the car think a battery is still there while you swap batteries. Do I really need to unhook the battery to put on a CAI? Or is it the removal of the MAS that sets it off? Sorry for all the questions, but big blocks and carburators I know, fuel injection and ECUs I don't.

its possibly to put on a cai without disconnecting the battery. but, its safer for you and the car if you do disconnect the battery. disconnecting the MAs has nothing to do with the radio code. its the battery

Ok I think I get it now. Thanks for your help. Now to find a dealer who can help for when I do need the code. Thanks again, guys.

Call Max Madsen Mitsubishi in Illinois at (630) 960-5040, ask for service. Tell them that you installed a new battery or something and need the code to restart the radio. Give them the serial number and they will give you the code in like 1 minute. I've called them twice and they are very cool about it...I suggest writing this down somewhere after.

Nahh, I bought my G used, and it didn't come with a manual, so I'm outta luck there. I'm going to try the place ChikagoGTZ suggested Monday. Hopefully that will work. Thanks for the tips and info, all...

    Thanks for the headsup

I'm taking delivery of a 2002 Galant tomorrow.
Hadn't thought of looking for the radio security codes.
Had fully intended to reset the computer to nix the last driver's style.
