I just got my cf evo hood 2day and I put it on and my hood latch is in the way of it shutting all the way. I was wondering if anyone has taking the latch off and just relied on the hood pins?

you can do that, but then anyone can just walk buy and take off your pins and try to get underneath your hood. i came out from the mall one day to see my pins up and released, but i still use my latch for reasons like this, no damage was done though. guess they wanted to fuck up my car.

I know that'll fucking suck but I got 2 get rid of the latch but I'm gonna figure out a way for it to lock up! Even if I got 2 get a pad lock. lol

DO you have an 8G. 99-2003?? Because if you do then it is not your latch. It is the little rubber gromlets/bumpers on top of your front crashbar. you know, the metal piece that the lights a partly under. those are threaded and need to be twisted into the car a bit more.

but wait, it doesnt stop there...

You are probably also getting resistance up by your struts. I suggest putting some type of grease, lotion, or that orange hand cleaner (thats what i used) all the way around the highest end of the tower and close the hood as far as you can. I would say latch it down, but apparently you are having problems doing so. anyway, drop it down, pick it back up and viola!, NOW YOU KNOW WHERE YOU NEED TO CUT!!!

of course if there is no lotion/handcleaner/grease on the hood, then you dont need to cut anything.

try that out and let us know what happens.

I am using my hood latch with my evo hood without the use of hoodpins. I had to remount the latch and drill new holes for it to shut correctly.

I had no problems with my latch. I unbolted it and moved it over as far as it can go and now it latches fine.

Do you guys have the one from VIS?

Yes I got a VIS CF and do the hood go down all the way by the hood hinges cause I have a little space between mine?

So everyone else knows, the space that eric4086 is talking about is due to the frame of the hood hitting the strut towers. Anyone with the VIS hood will have to cut out part of the frame for the hood to close properly. I just talked to eric4086 about it through PM's and I will take pics of what I cut out tomorrow.

please make sure to post pics, because I too am having the trouble with it hitting the struts. I also have the freedom design brace, is that going to be an additional issue?? But please post pics, because I'm scared to go over 55 or 60 in fear that a big gust of wind is going to come and blow my hood off!!!!! I'm glad this thread started, because I was going to start one this weekend! Also, if you have hoodpins, can you take pics of those installed, b/c most of us don't know where to put those, and don't want to mess up such a beautiful hood. And just one more question, kinda' off topic...how do you post pics???

thanx

Yes I too have the VIS and had to cut that portion of the hood to have it seat properly. After that no problems.

Alright here are my pics. I used a dremel with a router bit to cut it out, but first I started a hole with a drill bit so I could use the router bit. To find out exactly where to cut, I put chalk on the strut tower where the hood was hitting and then closed the hood. When the hood opened, there was chalk on the hood where I needed to cut. I kept doing the chalk thing until chalk didn't show up on the hood anymore.

In the pic below, you will see the clips that hold the washer hoses onto the hood. The hood doesn't come with holes for those, so you will have to make your own. If you look closely on your hood, you will see spots that look like they were once holes but were covered with pieces of fiberglass tape. Some of those spots are in almost the exact spot as the stock hood and were the spots I used to drill for the clips. Also, I couldn't get all the clips off of my stock hood, so instead of breaking them trying to get them off, I just went to the dealer and bought all new clips.

First you need to upload your pics to a server somewhere. Places like Yahoo won't work, but cardomain.com will. I believe there are a couple others. Once the pics are uploaded, get the url of the image. This is the url of one of the pics I posted above - http://www.dangerdanj.com/washer_hose_clips.jpg ('http://www.dangerdanj.com/washer_hose_clips.jpg') - Once you have the url, the following is the code you put in your post:

thats funny i had my evo hood installed and all i had to do was move the latch as far right as i could and twist the bump stops all the down.

Also the hood stand that hold your hood open makes the hood left more on the driverside than the passenger side here is a tutorial from Galantforums.com

http://www.galantforums.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=805 ('http://www.galantforums.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=805')

good luck. O and i didnt have to cut anything around i thought i mite have too but i didnt.

I did some quick searching, and it almost seems as though people with the I4 engines aren't having problems with hitting the strut towers. I can't say that for sure, but perhaps it is just the V6 owners that have that problem? Hmmm...

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that the hood prop also keeps the hood from going down all the way on the driver side of the car. If you look under the hood while it's down, you will see where the hood hits the prop. Just take the prop off the car and hammer the angles of the bar flat.

I have an I4 and I had to cut by the STrut towers. I think its just the hoods. chrome told me no cutting, but other than that, Im not sure who HAS NOT cut out that area. well i guess that one guy who already posted in this thread. but thats all.

and this is a hood prop...
