ok, is the VR-4 engine a easy swap into the 99 i4 es. It doesn't come in auto does it? I don't think it does. And also the VR-4 is the same engine as those in the 3000gt right. What other models have that engine?

It's not an easy swap at all. It would probably be cheaper and easier to import an actual VR-4. VR-4's do come with automatics.

the 3000gt vr4 and Galant vr4 do NOT share motors, so if you're planning on trying the swap, don't get the 3kgt one. Only one member on here (Mante) has tried it, and he gave up because of the wiring. You will also need to fabricate motor mounts. Swapping that motor in is definately nothing like swapping a b-series into a Civic, or anything like that.

they're two different motors in general. kinda like comparing a honda motor to a toyota motor. kinda like that. to tell you the truth, the usdm 8g v6 is more similar to the 3kgt's motor than the 6a13 available in the vr4

isnt the enigine in the 3kgt backwards from ours?? so then u would need to get their tranny too. then prolly rear axle just in case the tranny was a bit bigger. lots of potential problems

I think the 3000gt vr-4 is a 6G72B

There's the GT Pro one in modified this month

The 3KGT utilizes a 6G72. Which is infact the same motor as the V6 8G Galants. However its rotated 180 degrees. The same as the 4G64 in the I4 8G Galants and the 1G, 2G Eclipses, 7G Galants are rotated 180 degrees of each other.

The motor in the Galant Vr4 is only related by number of cylinders to the 6G72 (and 6G72TT, which is in the 3kGT VR4).

USDM 8G Galant - 4G64 and 6G72
USDM 3kGT & 3kGT VR4 - 6G72 & 6G72TT

Everything except the number of cylinders and the two turbos.

so the VR-4 in the 3000gt is mounted backwards? I never noticed, but i never looked really either. So i guess sticking a VR-4 from a 3000gt would be pretty hard then huh?! I wish we had some good engine that made power like them new 9G's....235hp/256tq V-6 thats nice

It would be easier to do a evo 4-8 engine swap than a 3kgt or even 6a13tt swap. the 3kgt engine swap in a 8g is ruled out, the 3kgt 6g72 is a lot bigger than your guys and it is DOHC.

An Evo 7 engine can be had for $4 nowadays, and by swapping to 5spd you can eliminate running 2 ecus. Plus 4 cylinder engine are easier to work on compared to v6 engines. Ever tried to change the spark plugs in a v6?

235hp and 250ftlbs in a 3.5L engine is pretty crappy haha. Stick to turbod 4cyl

Here is a 3kGT VR4 6G72TT motor. Notice the position of the Air Intake and Filter.

And here is a V6 6G72 Galant motor.

And finally a 6A13TT Motor in a JDM Galant/Legnum VR4.

Those numbers are comparable to anything else in its class. Not to mention it'll be ten times more reliable than any kind of FI motor.

well I dont think we meant to make it sound "almost impossible". it would just require more werk. engine swap+trannyswap(+/-)axle swap=super fast galant.

donr rule it out. just pick your weapon and go from there.

this has nothing to do with a vr4 but how hard is it to swap a V6 in and i4 01 es

imo, waste of ur time and money. it would be easier, cheaper and more reliable to just trade the car in for a v6.

ok so you said the EVO 2-8 engine is a good swap? Are the figures pretty much the same 271hp/230's torque. What all would you need to change and what if you did keep the auto what would you need to do? Plus where do you find the engines and for how much? And also which Evo year has the best reliable, Evo 7???
