This is for anyone who wants to create their own gauge faces in Photoshop. Here is the link to download my Photoshop files with all the layers so you can edit them to look the way you want. Currently they are woodgrain, but you can change that if you know how to use Photoshop.

If you want a set already done in silver with a silver Mitsubishi symbol on the speedometer gauge face, then click on the following link. These are just Tiff files, no layers to edit.

Here is a pic of my old Photoshop gauge faces with the woodgrain.

What do you print it on? Plain paper or some special plastic? How do you get them lit?

I printed them on some Epson Photo Quality Glossy Paper. That paper is thicker than average paper and holds up well. The whole white area of the faces lights up, but you have to remove your needles to install them. Also, you have to remove the stock faces. I changed my cluster bulbs to red ones so the faces would light up red. The clear plastic pieces behind the gauge faces can sort of be seen because they cast slight shadows, but the mod looked good for a free one. The only problem is trying to put your needles back on and re-calibrating them to read properly. When I originally did this mod, there were no gauge faces available for the Galant.

i used the same paper danj used. but you can use whatever paper or plastic film u want. u can use regular white paper, transparency paper (for that clear look) or even those papers u buy with the pattern on them. they key thing is, if you want them to light up is to make sure that light will shine thru the paper. a good thing u might want to do is shine a flashlight behind the paper and see if it shines thru, at least partially. if it doesn't then the light won't show thru.

as for install. one thing i learned from my reverse indiglos is that you can enlarge the holes from the photoshop gauges slightly so the faces will slip over the needles. and to remove the oem gauges, you can cut them out, if u don't want them anymore that is. that way you don't have to remove teh needles.

I guess this would only work for 99-01 models, as the 02/03 have a solid gauge face:

Still, A nice free mod!

if you're willing to take a risk...you can remove your 02-03 oem gauge face and scan them at 600dpi. then you can edit them in photoshop. thats how the original 99-01 gauges got put onto a potoshop file.

Oh, yeah, sorry PC users. https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif On a Mac with Stuffit, I can open Zip files too, so I don't need Winzip or anything.

Taking the original gauge overlays out and installing new ones are easy.

The only thing that I messed up on were the needles. The first time my speedometer was +10 mph off. So, I know I'd be driving 20mph and it would read 30mph.

So, just remember that you might have to take everything out again and readjust the needles.

I readjusted my needles today and some of you might know this already but this is what I did...

1. Put the cluster panel back in without the needles and the clear plastic cover.
2. Start the car and let it warm up.
3. Drive around the block a couple times.
3. Put the needles back on while your car is on and idling in the "Park" position.

I recommend taking a digital picture of your needle positions before you take them out. That way you'll know exactly where they belong.

https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif Had fun, did you? With the gas gauge, I just remembered where it was pointing before I pulled it off. With the temp gauge I let the car warm up like you did, then put it back on where it usually is when the car is warmed up. I did the same with the tach gauge as the temp gauge. The speedo was tricky though. Mine was always 5mph off, so I took the car out on the highway early on a Sunday morning and set the cruise control to 55mph, then I took the needle off while driving with one hand and put it back on at 50 mph. It was a little tricky, but it seems to be correct now. If anyone attempts to adjust their speedo needle like I did, make sure you loosen the needle up before you start driving so it's easy to get off while you are driving.

Great idea on how to set the speedometer needle. For the gas, I just filled up the tank and then pointed the needle to full.

I wonder what the dealership does? They probably use their damn MUTII scan tool.
