how long have you had the muffler? Is it possible the packing is going bad?

It could just be the way your exhaust is set up. You say you have str8 piping and a high flow cat and a sport muffler....having a "paper tearing" noise from your exhaust at a fairly decent high RPM range (7g's redline at a little over 6000...so 4000 is up there) doesn't surprise me. I hear Hondas all the time with a high flow exhaust making similar noises you have when they are up there in the RPM range. If you are not getting weird exhaust noises in idle then I wouldn't worry so much...but I would also put the car on a rack and inspect the the whole exhaust for anything wrong...in worse case, it may just be the muffler. 8)

thanks for the info makes alot of sense...but isnt there anything i can do about it without redoing my piping or changing my muffler?

Silencer for the muffler or adding a resonator somewhere in the piping..but that would require cutting some piping and welding the resonator.
