hey i was lookin on ebay and saw the caliper paint sets for like 30-40 bux... they come with a cleaner and u have to mix some shit and all that stuff.. then i went into pep boys today and saw a caliper spray paint for like 6 bux... i was wondering if i should get the 40 dollar one online and wait to get it in the mail, or just go with the cheap one because it doesnt really make a difference... thanks

i just bought brake cleaner, wire brushes, and brake caliper paint at pep boys, painted calipers and drums, and they still look 100% after 4 months.

the good part about the brush on paints is that you can get better coverage. get into detailed places and put a nice thick layer. you can achieve a similar effect with the spray types but its gonna take a few more layers of paint of the spray stuff to equal a layer of the thin spray stuff.

as for the cleaner, regular brake cleaner from the can works. i used about a can and a half on my car. just spray the brake parts, scrub with like a green scouring pad til you can see the metal start to shine a lil bit, and the rinse it off again with the brake cleaner. the cleaner IMO is the most important step in painting. if you dont use cleaner or you don't clean well, the paint is just gonna flake off in a matter of weeks or months.

i use the spray stuff. the color i have on now i've had on for about 7 months. its about the longest i've had the spray stuff on my brakes, i usually redo my calipers like every few months just cuz i get tired of the color. but out of the different colors i've used, they've all held up pretty well.

Do you guys remove the caliper to paint them? Or do you leave them on the car and just cover up everything w/ plastic?

i just keep mine on the car. you can remove the bolts that hold them on if you want so you can remove them but, i suggest you don't disconnect the brake calipers from the brake lines or you are gonna have to get the brake lines bled.

i just left the calipers on and covered everything else with newspaper. the only spots you'll miss are the places that no one could ever see unless they took the caliper off your car
