If you have never driven the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution – better known as an “Evo” – you really are missing something. For starters, it is perhaps the best-steering production car available in America. Throw in wonderful clutch and brake feel, smooth shifting and a very willing and responsive (if a little underpowered) turbocharged four add up to one of the most rewarding-to-drive cars in existence. And there’s no worry when it comes time to bring the experience to a halt, thanks to some very powerful Brembos that slow the Evo down on a par with some of the world’s best sports cars.
The new MR version looks to make the Evo an even more enjoyable ride with the addition of a larger turbocharger for improved low- and mid-range power and an extra gear in the form of a new 6-speed gearbox. The MR also sheds about 300 pounds, thanks to a new aluminum roof and lightweight alloy BBS wheels. Improved handling is achieved with even stickier Yokohama Advan tires, revised suspension and Mitsubishi’s famous active center differential, helping to elevate its skidpad number from 0.88g in stock form to a whopping 0.98g for the MR.

And best of all, according to Sam Mitani, the MR is bound for the U.S. “This baby is definitely headed our way,” says the editor of SPEED. Look for the MR to sell for around an amazingly low $33,000.

I drove the "normal" EVO VIII a month ago.

That is my next mitsubishi! (If I ever can afford it)

What does the "MR" stand for?

But I guess I'll stick to my old -98 galant estate.

That's interesting... considering they anounced the production of the EVO RS to begin later this year... hmmmmm.

MR sounds good, I'll assume for now that it will be a limited production model... for now.

What the heck is that on the window? And what is it for? Maybe for wind deflection? Excuse my ignorance...lol

They call that thing on the window a vortex or something like that. MR stands for Mitsubishi Racing. And it's definitely coming here. I've read about people who have already put in their orders for one with a written statement that they will get it for MSRP with no dealer mark up. I wish I could do that. I would if I wasn't looking to buy a condo.

God. I would love to have even the regular Evo VII. But 30K. Sheesh, that's steep. I know how you feel Danger. Me and my fiance' are gonna really start looking for homes after the wedding.

i've driven only 1 evo maybe 2 but uncertain. i've driven an old evo2gsr the other was more of a lancer but it had "Evolution" and i didn't look under the hood either it was a friend's. both where fun to drive. handles beautifully. i hit 60 and felt like i was going only 20. very comfy car. acceleration was quick didn't really feel the turbo kick hard on the evo2

once i hit 25 i'm going to save to try to bring out an evo6 out here (hopefully righthand drive 8) ).
the EVOs and STis are my dream cars unfortunately STis are easy to get now
