i bought an air horn for $40 from pepboys, it was two different actual horns to combine the sound into one abnoxious horn sound. after getting it i realized i dont like that high pitched whine sound, i'm not an air horn fan i guess. i hooked it up to the stock horn wiring, which wasn't a smart idea cause i blew my horn fuse and the relay for my headlights...go figure. apparently the air compressor needs a lot of power. thing with air horns the compressor is this big metal cylinder you need to find a spot to mount it too, just another thing to mount to take up room and get in the way. i just bought a loud electric horn and it's kinda quiet but works.

This post ('https://www.thegalantcenter.org/viewtopic.php?t=26382&highlight=horn') talks about a member doing a bigger horn install. Pics don't seem to link now - but maybe you can drop him a line for details.

thanks for your help guys

how are you supposed to wire the horn up then if not with the stock wiring?
how do you then control it? you use the steering whell button or something else?
if you still have this do you want to get rid of it?

you could use a relay. let the horn get its power from the battery. and use the stock horn wiring as the trigger wire for the relay.

i have an airhorn, my friend got it for me for hannukah, lol. and his dad is the manager at pep boys, so im guessing thats where he got it from. installation wasnt that hard, and on an 8G, there is a nice lil spot for the compressor, sorta by the intake, open area of metal. mine had two horns, and im telling you right now, dont expect it to sound like some crazy trucker, like peano said, its more of a high pitch squeal. but i wont take it off since its a present, and as for wiring it up, the new horn came with a couple of adaptors, cuz when u look at the plug for the horn, it will be crazy weird lookin, but mine just plugged in. then we took the horns and just bolted them on where we could find space. im wondering if the noise isnt as good since the horns arent facing the same direction and right next to eachother, i think i have a pic on my cardomain, lemme check....yeh, found it, so in the pic u can see where the two horns are, but i think the compressor is hidden behind/under the intake

i remember a few years back seeing one of the neighbor kids putting an actual air compressor (the type they have at bike shops) in his trunk, and his dad owned a gravel pit, so he took a horn off the diesel trucks.

It required time to build up pressure, but it sounded pretty loud (not quite as loud as the dumptrucks did)
