If I remove my alloys from my car, and then I put them back, do I need to use the torque wrench to apply to required force to the bolts?
In other words, can't I just tighten all bolts as hard as I can so the wheels don't fall? https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif
I don't have a torque wrench and I am thinking about painting my calipers.... https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

Use a torque wrench. It will save you hassles later of warped rotors.

I think it's 85 ft. lbs. all the way around tightening in a star patttern.

I'd say it's neccessary. Or you could not use one and run the risk of over-tightening and warping your rotors - or under-tightening and loosing a wheel. Go to you're local auto store - or even wally world - I'm sure you'll find a basic torque wrench for not much more then you're going to spend on paint for the calipers...

go ahead and buy a torque wrench. you can buy the simplest torque wrench out there for like 10 bucks at the auto parts store.

but yea don't look at it as something just to tighten the lugs nuts on your wheels, look at it as in investment. when you do your brakes you'd want to torque those caliper bolts. when you change your spark plugs you'd want to torque the spark plugs in. and the list goes on.

unless you have something thats 85 lbs and a lug wrench tahts a foot long or something like that, then i'd go ahead and get the torque wrench.

Thanks for the replies,
new on my shopping list : A Torque Wrench....
And I am assuming 3/8" is the right size...?

And if someone knows, it would be good for reference to have those exact numbers (of torque/force) in this thread.

- For the bolts of the wheels, using 3/8"
- For the spark plugs, using ___
- Caliper bolts, using ___
- any and all others.... https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif
