Hi All,

I accidently broke one of wheel studs (front driver side). Is it difficult to change it? What involve (step-by-step would be appreciated) and is there any special tool?

As of my mechanical skills, I replaced brake rotors and pads on my Galant. Oh yeah, I have 2002 ES V6.

Thanks for the help.

Should I get the stud replacement from the dealer or I can get aftermarket stud from an autoshop? If the latter, what is the spec?

Thanks.

the stud isn't even 3 bucks at the dealer. unless you live like hours away from the dealer, then i'd go get the dealer one. that way you'll have no problems

I got the stud from dealer for $3. However, I got a problem, I couldn't remove the broken stud out. Basically, I gave up to do it by myself.

Today I stopped by a tire and wheel shop and got a quote for $80 (about 1 hour labor) to replace that broken stud. Is this a reasonable price?

Thanks.

i haven't taken mine to a shop to get changed but for 80 bucks, i'll just beat on the stud even harder cuz there's no way in hell imma pay 80 bucks to get that damn stud out. and you really don't have to worry about damaging the stud, you'll be changing it. just make sure you don't break anything else.

That price is outrageous. My shop does them for $30. Btw, it doesn't take an hour to replace a stud, especially on a Galant.

As for the stud, you should be able to hammer it out with the rotor on, just be careful not to damage the rotor. Worst case you have to remove the Caliper, and rotor, then you can hammer the stud out easier.

I know. It's not as easy as it's said. I've tried hard but that damn stud would not move at all. Do I need to pour some liquid or something. I guess in the shop they use impact hammer (that vibrator thingy). Any suggestion?

Thanks.

Even if the stud is "aftermarket" as long as its the correct length and thread style it won't cause problems.

Hi All,

Finally I put my rims on (17"), and painted calipers (silver).

Thanks for the input and suggestions.

I dropped my car with Eibach+KYB/AGX. It doesn't look like dropped, does it?
