just recently bought a 2000 galant es. its the i4 which puts out 145 hp?at the crank. well i was wondering on average what would be the horsepower at the wheels. ive heard someone say 103-107 at the wheels but thats like a loss of 40hp, is that for real or is it a higher than that. thanks in advance.

Sounds about right. The V6 is 195hp to the crank and around 150hp to the wheels. That's what happens with a not so great auto tranny.

when the MAg members dynoed their cars at the dyno meet in mid january a few years back, they were getting numbers a lil lower than that for the i4's. people who had mods like headers were getting numbers like that.

but yea, its alot of things that make us lose so much power once it gets to the wheels. like danj said there's the auto tranny. then you got our exhaust with the emission control devices like the one or more cats that you have. then there's just plain friction and old age.
