What is the difference between a Long Block, and a Short Block?
what is a stroker?

Might sound stupid but...legit questions i've never understood.

Thanks!!!

*Long Block- Technically means a fully assembled motor with head and block

*Short Block- Block is the only thing assembled (crank, pistons, piston rods, etc)...head is NOT included

*Stoker- Changing usually the crank, pistons, piston rods to increase displacement of the motor. For example the "2.3 stroker" is basically a 2.0 4g63 with a 4g64 crank, pistons, rods, etc etc. A common "upgrade" in the dsm community for those who crave torque.

right on. A little more detail borrowed from another site (n/m the all caps - I ain't re-typing it):

TO START WITH ALL ENGINES ARE THE SAME DIMENSIONS, SOME PEOPLE ASK IF A SHORT BLOCK IS SMALLER THAN A LONG BLOCK, THE ANSWER IS NO ! THEY ARE THE SAME SIZE, THE REASON THEY CALL IT A SHORT BLOCK IS THAT MANY OF THE PARTS ARE LEFT OFF SUCH AS HEADS, ROCKER ARMS, LIFTERS, OIL PAN, ETC. IN OTHER WORDS THEY HAVE BEEN SHORTED FROM A LONG BLOCK, HENCE THE NAME SHORT BLOCK.

SHORT BLOCKS HAVE THE FOLLOWING INCLUDED.

LOWER BLOCK, CRANKSHAFT, CONNECTING RODS, PISTONS, RINGS, MAIN BEARINGS, ROD BEARINGS, CAM BEARINGS, WARNING ONLY PURCHASE THIS UNIT IF YOU HAVE A QUALIFIED ENGINE SPECIALIST WHO CAN PROPERLY CLEAN, REWORK, AND ASSEMBLE TO A COMPLETE RUNNING ENGINE, IT WILL REQUIRE NUMEROUS NEW PARTS, AND LOTS OF TIME NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THE WEEKEND WARRIOR !!!

LONG BLOCK ENGINES HAVE THE FOLLOWING INCLUDED.

BLOCK, CRANKSHAFT, PISTONS, RINGS, MAIN BEARINGS, ROD BEARINGS, CAM BEARINGS, CAMSHAFT, TIMING CHAIN, SPROCKETS, LIFTERS, PUSH RODS, ROCKER ARMS, CYLINDER HEADS, OIL PUMP, OIL SCREEN, AND GASKET SET. THIS WILL ALSO REQUIRE A SKILLED ENGINE SPECIALIST, AND HOURS OF TIME CLEANING THE FOLLOWING PARTS THAT YOU TAKE OFF YOUR OLD ENGINE TO REUSE ON YOUR NEW ENGINE, SUCH AS OIL PAN, TIMING COVER, VALVE COVERS, INTAKE MANIFOLD, CARBURETOR, WATER PUMP DISTRIBUTOR, ALL IGNITION COMPONENTS, IT WILL REQUIRE MANY HOURS OF CLEANING AND ASSEMBLY, PLUS IF YOU SCREW IT UP IT IS YOUR PROBLEM !!!

Strokers are called that because in general all they change about the inner workings of a block are the stoke length of a piston by using different length rods and pistons to match. Sometimes that means you also have to bore-over, but usually its just the stroke changed.

One of the more potent things you can do to a Supra 2JZ-GTE is get the JUN Stroker kit. 3.0l to 3.2l. But that changes the Rods, Pistons, and Crank. Only so they match better though.

Makes em spool SOOOOOOOO Fast!!!!
